The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Da Silva closes the distance and pushes John back into the cage.

John is fighting off a takedown attempt but Da Silva is just too persistent for him and manages to trip John to the mat. John regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Da Silva not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Da Silva seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
John should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Da Silva decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Da Silva closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Da Silva lands in his opponent's guard.

Da Silva stands and steps away. John gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

John really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Da Silva. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Da Silva shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Da Silva takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Da Silva has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Da Silva.
John is looking to control Da Silva's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can John avoid being mounted?
Da Silva has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
John is in a horrible position here. Da Silva smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
