PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Larry Sparks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and El Toro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). El Toro told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Larry Sparks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, El Toro!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Michael Johnstone and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Toro is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Sparks.
Sparks throws a sloppy head kick and Toro moves out of range easily.
Toro with the counter takedown but Sparks avoids it easily.
Sparks throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Toro tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Toro takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Toro blocks the body kick.
Sparks throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Toro.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Toro is defended easily by Sparks.
Toro gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Sparks counters with a straight right hand.
Sparks lands a jab.
Toro shoots in looking for a takedown but Sparks manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Toro's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Larry Sparks has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of El Toro.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
A left lands for Sparks.
Toro looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Sparks is fending him off so far but Toro persists. Nope, Sparks circles away and we're back to standing.
Sparks fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Toro has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
A slapping leg kick lands for Sparks.
Both fighters circling a little - Sparks finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sparks is looking to slow Toro down with leg kicks.
Toro closes the distance and clinches up with Sparks, looking for a takedown. Toro pushes Sparks against the cage but Sparks circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Sparks connects with a solid leg kick.
Toro tries for a takedown but Sparks circles away easily
and Sparks counters with a one-two to the body.
Toro looks winded!
Toro dodges the punch combination from Sparks.
No joy there for Sparks, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Toro throws a leg kick but Sparks sees it coming and moves out of range.
Sparks is looking for a counter combo.
Toro throws a half hearted mid kick.
Sparks feints and then cracks Toro's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Toro down.
Toro avoids the head kick by Sparks.
Toro tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Sparks looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Sparks throws a nice outside leg kick.
Toro has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Sparks.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sparks with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Sparks throws a right and a left that Toro avoids nicely.
Toro takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
The crowd cheers as Sparks lands an impressive looking overhand right. Toro doesn't seem phased though.
Sparks feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Toro's calf.
An inside leg kick lands from Sparks.
Toro has his takedown stuffed
and Sparks counters with a right hand to the body.
Toro tries to clinch but Sparks moves away
and Sparks counters with a one-two to the body.
Sparks lands with a straight right. Toro didn't see that one coming.
Sparks throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Toro.
Toro goes for a double leg but Sparks avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Sparks continues to drive forward.
Sparks lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Sparks looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Toro only half commits to the counter leg kick.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A jab lands there for Sparks.
Sparks connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Toro's hands.
El Toro seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Toro takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Sparks throws a series of punches but Toro moves out of range.
Sparks goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Sparks lands a high kick!


Toro is rocked!
Sparks throws a nice looking combination but Toro bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
And Toro tries to counter it with a takedown but Sparks pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Toro closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sparks circles away.
Sparks scores with a shot to the body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Sparks jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Sparks - that will leave a mark!
The fighters circle momentarily. Sparks darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Sparks throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Toro.
Toro shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Sparks connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Toro is trying desperately to land a takedown but Sparks is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Toro.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sparks connects with a body shot.
Sparks thuds a left hand into Toro's body.
Sparks throws a nice head kick!
Sparks scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
A decent looking body kick lands there for Sparks.
Sparks thumps Toro with a low kick.
Sparks is working the combinations to good effect here.
Toro avoids the head kick by Sparks.
Sparks punishes Toro's body with a nice straight punch.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Toro misses with a head kick.
Sparks jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
Toro fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Sparks avoids it really well and circles away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Larry Sparks dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Sparks feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Toros jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Sparks blocks a head kick by Toro.
Larry Sparks is winning the standup battle so far.
Sparks throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Both these guys seem content to just stand up and trade with eachother but Toro might want to think about changing up his gameplan a bit because over the course of the fight, Sparks has got the better of the exchanges.
Sparks stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Sparks wants it to stay on the feet.
Crunch! Sparks slams his shin into Toro's torso.
Sparks pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Toro with the counter takedown but Sparks avoids it easily.
Toro shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Sparks counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nice shot by Sparks.
Toro is breathing heavily.

Sparks lands a left and a right that send Toro crashing to the mat, dazed. Sparks thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Toro is still on wobbly legs! Can Sparks finish him?


It looks like El Toro has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Sparks closes the distance and lands a crisp combination that knocks Toro out cold! Toro corner are devastated, head in hands behind our commentary position. Poor guys.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Larry Sparks!
