The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cross looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Cross throws a nice looking combination but Aguilar bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
A quick step to the side and Aguilar tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Cross tries to bum rush Aguilar with a series of wild strikes but Aguilar uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Aguilar appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Rico Matthews Cross seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cross throws a series of strikes that have Aguilar backpedaling.
Cross stalks Aguilar and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Aguilar's face. Aguilar staggers backwards, shaken.
Cross will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Cross shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Aguilar eats them both and turns towards Cross to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Aguilar seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Cross for as long as he can get away with.

Aguilar lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Cross hold on?!

and Aguilar counters with a lovely shot to the body.

It looked like Aguilar was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Aguilar lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Cross circles away quickly and effectively.
Cross throws a right hand that Aguilar ducks under and follows up with a left that Aguilar also avoids with ease.
Aguilar throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Cross's waist but Cross gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Aguilar off to one side.

Cross swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
No joy there for Cross, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
