PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Bruce Wright (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paddy Pitbull (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pitbull has chosen Swiming Pools - Kendrick Lamar as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Bruce Wright!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Paddy Pitbull!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Shigeki Fujiwara and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wright moves in looking to clinch but Pitbull pushes him off.
Wright wants to clinch up but Pitbull keeps it at a distance.
Wright tries to close the distance and clinch but Pitbull swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Wright is defended easily by Pitbull.
Wright sets himself, and Pitbull steps forward looking for the clinch! Wright avoids it this time.

Pitbull feints and as Wright raises his hands in defense, Pitbull changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Pitbull content to stall in guard here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wright wants to sweep but no luck.
Pitbull stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wright swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Wright has his foot on Pitbull's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Pitbull works his way back into a safe position though.

Wright working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pitbull doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pitbull manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Pitbull stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wright swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Pitbull is still trying to improve position.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Pitbull seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Wright throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Pitbull's waist but Pitbull gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Wright off to one side.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Pitbull throws a head kick but Wright moves out of range.
Wright seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

Wright instigates a clinch.

Wright breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Wright shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Pitbull pinned against the cage. Pitbull gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bruce Wright. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Pitbull shoots in but Wright avoids the takedown attempt easily.
As Pitbull looks to move away, Wright throws a big counter combo bu Pitbull just gets out of the way.

Pitbull shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Wright is trying to defend but Pitbull finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Pitbull is trying to work for a kimura but Wright is defending well.

Wright slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Wright is pulling down on Pitbull's head to control his posture.
Wright continues to stall.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Wright moves into range and clinches up with Pitbull.
Pitbull is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Wright to keep the fight standing.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Pitbull manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Wright wants to get up but he can't break Pitbull's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paddy Pitbull dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Wright has closed the distance and engaged Pitbull in a clinch.
Pitbull drops down looking for an ankle pick but Wright pulls his leg out and moves away.
Pitbull tries to move into range but Wright moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Wright looks to land a combination but Pitbull avoids it well.
Wright has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Pitbull.
Nice sprawl there from Pitbull as Wright shoots in.
Pitbull has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Pitbull shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Wright as he jumps to the side.

Wright's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Wright pulls Pitbull in close to his closed guard and prevents Pitbull from doing any damage or advancing position.
Wright will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Pitbull not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Wright pulls Pitbull in to control the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Pitbull throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Wright tries to close the distance and clinch but Pitbull swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Pitbull changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Wright looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Pitbull scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Wright to see if he's OK.
Wright tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Pitbull easily slips into full mount!
Pitbull wants to control the pace but Wright is squirming around nicely.

Wright is in all sorts of trouble here.
Pitbull can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Wright is looking to escape.
Pitbull is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Wright really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Wright is trying to stand but he's just given Pitbull his back.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Wright is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

Pitbull has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Wright looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Wright is really stuck here.

Paddy Pitbull showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Pitbull wants to clinch up but Wright keeps it at a distance.

Ouch! a nice leg kick from Wright, right into the meat.

Pitbull throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Wright shoots in looking for a takedown but Pitbull manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Wright's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Wright tries for a takedown but Pitbull sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bruce Wright. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Wright enables Pitbull to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Wright manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Pitbull tries to free his leg and advance position but Wright is retaining full guard.
Pitbull is in close to Wright's body, working some short punches and elbows.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Wright leaves Pitbull with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Pitbull closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Wright tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Pitbull jumps guard but Wright turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Pitbull wants to break free but Wright has control.

Pitbull breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Wright dives in and grabs Pitbull's left leg, looking for a takedown. Pitbull pushes down on Wright's head and hops out.
Wright takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Wright shoots in for a takedown but Pitbull shows good takedown defense.
Wright fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Pitbull shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Pitbull showed some decent athleticism there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Pitbull lands a nice short elbow.
Pitbull perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Pitbull is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Wright defends it well.
Wright wants to get back to full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Wright plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Pitbull shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Wright as he avoids it easily.
Pitbull moves in looking to clinch but Wright pushes him off.
Bruce Wright has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Paddy Pitbull is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Pitbull drives through with a takedown into Wright's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Paddy Pitbull comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Pitbull winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
