PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Peter Batts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alan Terkey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Alan Terkey was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Peter Batts!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Alan Terkey!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Daniel Bishop and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Terkey staying out of range there.

Terkey dives in and scores a takedown into Batts's guard.
Batts preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Terkey trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Terkey stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Batts swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Terkey controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Terkey drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Terkey jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Terkey in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Terkey lands a couple of elbows.
Terkey tries to free his leg and advance position but Batts is retaining full guard.
Terkey has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Batts being controlled here, momentarily.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Batts tries to clinch but Terkey moves away
and Terkey counters with a two punch combo.

and Terkey counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Batts is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Terkey is looking to take a break and control but Batts is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Terkey looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Terkey frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Batts gets back to half guard.

Terkey is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Batts is just riding it out for now. Terkey eventually gives up the hold.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Batts is staying active underneath Terkey, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Terkey looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Batts avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Terkey.

Terkey is looking for a kimura but Batts is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Terkey to get the leverage.
Terkey performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Terkey wants to lay and pray for a moment but Batts keeps working.
Batts is trying to stand.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Terkey wants to take a breather but Batts is having none of it.
Terkey not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Terkey thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Batts's head.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Terkey takes a jab right on the kisser.
Terkey drops his hands momentarily and Batts takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Terkey takes one on the button.

Batts lands a big uppercut and Terkey crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Terkey looks OK. Batts waves Terkey back to his feet!


Terkey is rocked!
Terkey circles away from the clinch attempt.
Terkey is still on wobbly legs! Can Batts finish him?
Batts cracks Terkey on the jaw with a powerful right hand and Terkey falls backwards against the cage. Batts follows up with more strikes that drop Terkey to his knees. Batts keeps the pressure on and the referee jumps in to save Terkey! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Peter Batts!
