PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Bertram Howell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sean Glasheen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sean Glasheen will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Bertram Howell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Sean Glasheen!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Arvi Lind and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Glasheen moves into the clinch.

Glasheen breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Glasheen tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
A little feinted left hand from Howell on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
A head kick misses from Glasheen.
Glasheen pulls out of a head kick attempt.
A head kick from Glasheen lands but Howell takes it in his stride.
Glasheen moves into range and lands a nice body kick.

Glasheen fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Howell, pushing him back against the cage.

Howell breaks the clinch.
Glasheen pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Howell was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

and Howell counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Howell.

Howell escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Howell shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Glasheen as he avoids it easily.

Glasheen has taken the fight to the clinch.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Glasheen blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Howell keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Glasheen's efforts to push away.

Howell pulls guard successfully.
Glasheen would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Glasheen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Howell. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Howell has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Glasheen is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Howell's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Glasheen is pressed up against the cage. Howell has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Glasheen down to the mat. Glasheen avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Glasheen lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Howell circles away quickly and effectively.
As Glasheen looks to move away, Howell throws a big counter combo bu Glasheen just gets out of the way.
Glasheen throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Howell went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Howell tries for a takedown but Glasheen sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Glasheen is looking for the big counter here.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bertram Howell. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Howell jumps guard.

Howell looking for a sweep. Not yet Howell, not yet.
Howell lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Howell stands up from Glasheen's guard - Howell perhaps looking for a knockout.
Howell fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Glasheen lands a two punch combo.


It looks like Bertram Howell has been cut.
Glasheen moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Howell blocks a head kick by Glasheen.

Glasheen closes the distance and clinches.

Howell escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Glasheen instigates a clinch.

Howell breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

and Howell counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Howell dives in and scores a takedown into Glasheen's guard.
Glasheen is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Howell dives into side control.
Glasheen looks winded!

Glasheen is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Howell stands up and beckons Glasheen to his feet.

Glasheen cracks Howell with a right hand to the side of the head.
Howell blocks a head kick by Glasheen.
Howell is looking for a counter combo.
Glasheen throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Howell fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Glasheen unleashes a big counter combination but Howell bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Glasheen throws a head kick that misses.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Glasheen throws a leg kick

and Howell counters by moving into the clinch.

Howell breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Glasheen misses with a straight left.
Howell is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Glasheen.
Glasheen throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sean Glasheen dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Bertram Howell's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Howell pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Glasheen tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Howell is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Howell ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Howell no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Howell is on top in guard.

Bertram Howell overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Howell stops Glasheen from standing up.
Glasheen is breathing heavily.

Glasheen is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Howell gets to his feet. Glasheen looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

and Howell counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Glasheen wants to stand and escape. He's got his foot on Howell's hips, looking to push off. But Howell grabs a hold of the leg and drops back for an ankle lock! It's hard to tell if he's got it. Both fighters look composed - OH, not anymore they don't! Glasheen screams like a kid who's trapped his fingers in the car door and taps out! Yikes, that must have hurt - hopefully it's not snapped anything!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Heel Hook). Bertram Howell!
Sean Glasheen was interviewed post fight and said 'I'll come back better, and I'll avenge this loss. Sorry I couldn't perform for you guys, next time I'll be better!'.
