PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Shatter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Dean (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ryan Shatter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Steve Dean!
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Santiago Holmes and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dean dives in for a single leg takedown but Shatter sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Shatter gets a takedown into half guard.
Shatter thows a huge punch but Dean dodges it nicely.
Dean has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Shatter is working away from the top position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dean is positioning himself well to prevent Shatter advancing to mount.
Shatter is keen to just control but Dean is a slippery customer.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dean trying to control from the bottom.
Shatter throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Shatter won't allow Dean to sweep him here.

Shatter slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Dean is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Shatter pulls his head out easily.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Shatter lands a nice short elbow.
Dean has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Shatter is working away from the top position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shatter working over Dean with some ground and pound. Dean looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Dean wants to stand and escape but Shatter is having none of it.
Shatter is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Dean is pulling down on Shatter's head to control his posture.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Dean keeping moving, preventing Shatter from controlling successfully.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Dean shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Shatter but Shatter pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Dean misses with a series of wild punches.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Dean is trying hard to land a takedown here. Shatter sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Ryan Shatter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steve Dean.

Dean moves into the clinch successfully.
Shatter stalling in the clinch.

Dean breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Dean clinches with his opponent.
Shatter jumps guard but Dean stands there with Shatter around his waist. Shatter gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Shatter jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Dean walks away with a smile on his face. Shatter gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Shatter clinches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryan Shatter dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Shatter has his takedown stuffed
and Dean counters with a low kick, right behind Shatter 's knee.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Dean.
Shatter fails with a takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Shatter is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Dean's half guard.

Dean is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Shatter is just content to waste time from the top position. Dean takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Shatter is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Dean moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Shatter is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Dean can do to turn this around?

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Dean throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Shatter's waist but Shatter gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Dean off to one side.
Shatter drops down looking for a counter takedown but Dean sprawls and moves away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Steve Dean will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Shatter's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!



Dean fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Shatter, pushing him back against the cage.
Still in the clinch, Dean scores with a nice short uppercut.
Shatter goes for a takedown attempt but Dean pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Dean throws a left and a right that both miss

and Shatter counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Shatter.
Shatter wants a takedown but no success here.
Shatter is trying to pull guard but Dean has him pressed against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ryan Shatter. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Shatter has Dean pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Dean manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Dean darts in looking for a takedown but Shatter gets double underhooks and turns Dean into the cage.

Ryan Shatter is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Dean shoots in looking for a takedown. Shatter tries to sprawl out of it but Dean keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Shatter manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Dean takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Shatter avoids the head kick by Dean.
As Dean tries to get set, Shatter tries to push him back and clinch up but Dean manages to avoid the attempt.

Dean looks to land a right hand but Shatter moved out of range.
Shatter feinted with a counter takedown.
Shatter slaps away a takedown attempt from Dean, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Shatter attempts a counter takedown but Dean avoids it well and moves away.
Dean fails to land the takedown.
Shatter feinted with a counter takedown.
A head kick misses from Dean.

Shatter shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Dean's guard.
Shatter is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Shatter distracts Dean with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Shatter looking to sit in guard and control but Dean gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Shatter uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Steve Dean seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dean tries to score a power double leg takedown but Shatter sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Dean somewhat.
Shatter feinted with a counter takedown.

Shatter closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Shatter lands in his opponent's guard.

Shatter trying to control but Dean is working from the bottom.
Dean manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Shatter manages to get himself to full guard.

Shatter lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Shatter is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Shatter in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Dean pulls Shatter in close to his closed guard and prevents Shatter from doing any damage or advancing position.
Shatter trying to control the position from guard on top but Dean is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Steve Dean.
I think Dean has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
