Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Pietr Kandinsky!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Oliver Thompson!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Bruno Lombardi and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A jab from Thompson misses.

Kandinsky rushes Thompson and presses him up against the cage.
Thompson is looking to take this one to the mat.
A short body shot lands from Kandinsky as the two fighters clinch.
I was talking to Kandinsky's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Thompson is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Kandinsky to keep the fight standing.
Thompson is looking for a takedown.
Pietr Kandinsky has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Oliver Thompson.

Thompson tightens his grip and picks Kandinsky up, before dumping him to the ground. Kandinsky manages to land in guard.
Kandinsky controls Thompson momentarily but Thompson frees himself.
Kandinsky looking to hit a scissor sweep but Thompson is one step ahead there.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kandinsky is on top in guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Thompson cracks Kandinsky with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Thompson bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Kandinsky's head backwards.
Kandinsky ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Thompson moves away.
Kandinsky misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Thompson throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Thompson keeps the fight on the outside.
Kandinsky is looking to clinch.
Thompson moves out of range of the body kick.
Kandinsky connects with a good right hand that stumbles Thompson. Thompson circles away out of range and recomposes himself.


It looks like Oliver Thompson has been cut.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kandinsky misses with a looping right.
Kandinsky keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Thompson falls off balance throwing a combination

and Kandinsky counters by clinching up.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kandinsky is pressed up against the cage. Thompson has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Kandinsky down to the mat. Kandinsky avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Thompson lands with a shot to the body.

Kandinsky instigates a clinch.
Thompson misses with a punch to the body.
Kandinsky misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Kandinsky lands with a left to the head.
Thompson is trying to maintain a safe position but Kandinsky gets an underhook and turns Thompson into the cage.
Kandinsky cracks Thompson with a nice body shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Kandinsky's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Thompson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kandinsky's waist but Kandinsky gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Thompson off to one side.
Kandinsky tries to close the distance and clinch but Thompson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
As Kandinsky backs off Thompson throws a huge counter combo but Kandinsky manages to avoid it all.
Kandinsky tries to clinch but Thompson is having none of it.
Thompson shapes to counter with a head kick.

Kandinsky clinches up with Thompson and pushes him back against the cage.
Kandinsky lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Thompson backwards.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Kandinsky creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Kandinsky is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Thompson can do to turn this around?
Thompson misses with the head strike.
Thompson tries to work over Kandinsky's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Thompson works on Kandinsky's body with a couple of short punches.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Thompson is looking to work some ground and pound but Kandinsky has wrist control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
