Blackmore comes to the cage accompanied by 16th century greensleeves. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Fabio Villegas!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A looping hook to the body misses from Villegas. Blackmore does a little dance to reset his feet.
Ritchie Blackmore seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Blackmore lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Blackmore misses with a looping right.
Villegas swings for the body but Blackmore moves out of range.
Blackmore is looking to slow Villegas down with leg kicks.

Blackmore throws out a loose jab but Villegas uses good head movement to avoid it.
Villegas appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.

Blackmore is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

We've been hearing reports that Blackmore has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Blackmore throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Villegas throws a left and a right that both miss
and Blackmore counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Villegas thinking.
Blackmore tries to land a front kick but Villegas steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Villegas fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Blackmore fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Villegas has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Villegas throws the left hand but Blackmore avoids the punch easily.

Villegas stuns Blackmore with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

It looks like Fabio Villegas has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Blackmore keeps Villegas at a distance using the push kick.
Villegas takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Blackmore misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Villegas.
Villegas looks to land a combination but Blackmore avoids it well.

Blackmore tries to bum rush Villegas with a series of wild strikes but Villegas uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Blackmore is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Villegas is still in real trouble! Can Blackmore finish him?

Villegas had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Blackmore defends it easily.

Blackmore keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Villegas's head.

Blackmore grinds an elbow into Villegas's temple.
Blackmore is looking to take a break and control but Villegas is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Villegas takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.


Villegas is rocked!
Blackmore wants to lay and pray for a moment but Villegas keeps working.
Villegas is trying to buck Blackmore off.
Villegas is looking to regain half guard here but Blackmore keeps moving and retains side control.

Blackmore wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Villegas, who protects the arm well.
Blackmore landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Blackmore lands a strong strike to the head of Villegas. That's dazed him! Blackmore looking to finish here. Villegas is waving his arms around trying to block but he's hurt badly - Blackmore lands more strikes and the referee steps in to end the fight!

A relieved looking Ritchie Blackmore thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
