Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Vincent Vaughan!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice uppercut lands for Vaughan. That snapped Jones's head back.
Jones shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Vaughan pinned against the cage. Vaughan gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Jones uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Vaughan.
Some wild striking there from Vaughan.
Jones shoots in and drives through. Vaughan sprawls well.
Vaughan throws a sloppy head kick and Jones moves out of range easily.
Vaughan swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Vaughan looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Jones drops down looking for a counter takedown but Vaughan sprawls and moves away.
A low kick from Vaughan misses

and Jones counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jones drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Jones jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Vaughan wants to stand and escape but Jones is having none of it.
Jones content to stall in guard here.
Vaughan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jones. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jones won't allow Vaughan to get back to his feet.
Vaughan keeping full guard, as Jones tries to pass.
Jones controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Jones seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Vaughan for as long as he can get away with.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Vaughan looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Jones half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Jones shoots in for a takedown but Vaughan shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Vaughan.
Jones tries to score a power double leg takedown but Vaughan sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Jones somewhat.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Vaughan closes the distance and pushes Jones back into the cage.

Vaughan breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jones shoots in but no luck this time.
Jones avoids the body shot from Vaughan.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Vaughan.

Jones scores with a takedown into Vaughan's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jones pushing down on Vaughan's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Vaughan wants to get back to his feet.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Jones maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Vaughan could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Jones has cracked it and Vaughan is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Jones!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). John Jones!
An out of breath John Jones thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
