PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between JAKE REDD (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ultimate Warrior (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ultimate Warrior struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 171.3lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Ultimate Warrior is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, JAKE REDD!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ultimate Warrior!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Daniel Cesar and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
REDD shoots in but no luck this time.
REDD looks for a takedown but Warrior sprawls well.
Ultimate Warrior seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Warrior changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. REDD looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
REDD is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Warrior scores with a couple of short elbows.
Warrior happy to just control the position for now.
Warrior's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Warrior scores with punches from side control.

Warrior controlling the position.
REDD is looking to regain half guard here but Warrior keeps moving and retains side control.
Warrior tries to advance to mount but can't.
Warrior working the ground and pound but REDD is defending the strikes.
Warrior controlling the position from side mount.
REDD tries to improve position but can't.
Warrior in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Warrior scoring with punches from side control.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Warrior moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
REDD tries to buck Warrior off but Warrior is having none of it.

Warrior decides to stand up, so the ref orders REDD to his feet.
REDD doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Warrior decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in REDD's guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for JAKE REDD. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Warrior looks gassed!
Warrior is stalling in the full guard.
REDD wants to sweep but no luck.
Warrior wants to stand but REDD is controlling his posture from full guard.
REDD manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

REDD wants to finish this one by submission but Warrior is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from REDD.
A nice elbow there by REDD.


It looks like Ultimate Warrior has been cut.
REDD works his way to his opponent's back.
Warrior turns into REDD and is now in his guard.
Warrior slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Warrior looking to pass the guard.
Warrior seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
REDD trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Warrior is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Let's hope that Warrior has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Warrior gets to his feet - REDD follows without any prompting.
REDD doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Warrior counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Warrior is taking a breather. REDD says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ultimate Warrior dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Ultimate Warrior's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

and Warrior counters with a nice double leg into side control. REDD won't be happy with that.

Despite being in the dominant position, Ultimate Warrior just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

and REDD counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by REDD.
REDD keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Warrior's head.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
REDD won't allow Warrior to get back to his feet.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Warrior can do anything to dispel that myth.
Warrior pulls REDD in close to prevent any damage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Warrior scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Warrior clinches up against the cage.
Warrior drops to a knee looking for a takedown but REDD gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Warrior gets underhooks to prevent REDD's takedown attempt.
Warrior misses with a punch to the body.
REDD goes for a takedown attempt but Warrior pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for JAKE REDD. That's going to take a lot out of him.
REDD shoots and misses

and Warrior counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Warrior is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

REDD has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Warrior should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, REDD has tightened it up now! Warrior should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
