PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Benjamin Barbu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aengus Dubhlainn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dubhlainn has chosen Shinedown - Sound Of Madness as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Benjamin Barbu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Aengus Dubhlainn!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Ian Loll and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dubhlainn lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Barbu takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
A nice inside leg kick there by Dubhlainn. That's going to slow Barbu down.
A low kick from Dubhlainn misses

and Barbu counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Barbu slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Barbu slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Dubhlainn defending against the ground and pound.
Dubhlainn can't do much from the bottom here.
Barbu is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Dubhlainn's shoulder. That is not cool.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Barbu tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Barbu working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Dubhlainn is looking for a sweep.
Dubhlainn gets back to half guard.
Dubhlainn blocking the ground and pound attempt from Barbu.
Barbu is keen to just control but Dubhlainn is a slippery customer.
Dubhlainn is trying to control but can't.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Barbu tries to pass the half guard into mount. Dubhlainn knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Barbu is looking for a kimura but Dubhlainn is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Barbu to get the leverage.
Dubhlainn wants to control but Barbu is keeping busy.
Barbu missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Dubhlainn is trying is best to control the position here.

Barbu wants to work for an arm triangle but Dubhlainn is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Dubhlainn is looking to escape.
Barbu wants to lay and pray for a moment but Dubhlainn keeps working.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Barbu thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Dubhlainn's head.
Dubhlainn felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Barbu wants to take a breather but Dubhlainn is having none of it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Barbu lands with a nice body punch.
Aengus Dubhlainn is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Dubhlainn tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Barbu manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Barbu attempts a counter takedown but Dubhlainn avoids it well and moves away.
Barbu shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Dubhlainn defends it nicely.
Dubhlainn lands with a hook. Barbu tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Barbu swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Jab, jab by Dubhlainn - just one landing.
Nice shot lands for Dubhlainn.
Dubhlainn scores with a jab to the jaw.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
A shot to the body from Dubhlainn misses
and Dubhlainn takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Dubhlainn is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Barbu is looking to counter punch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Benjamin Barbu will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Barbu takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Aengus Dubhlainn seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Dubhlainn misses the shot to the body.
Barbu walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Barbu thows a left - swing and a miss!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dubhlainn tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Barbu counters with a nice double leg into side control. Dubhlainn won't be happy with that.

Dubhlainn seems a little lost for a moment, as Barbu dominates the positioning.

Barbu is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Dubhlainn is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Dubhlainn is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Dubhlainn makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Dubhlainn.
Dubhlainn is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Barbu advances position into side control!
Barbu trying to control the position but Dubhlainn is working away.

Barbu has hold of Dubhlainn's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Dubhlainn seems comfortable defending it but Barbu has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Dubhlainn is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Dubhlainn is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Barbu couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Benjamin Barbu!
A less than humble Benjamin Barbu misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
