PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Alex Lesnar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnathan Palmer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Palmer has chosen Take it Outside as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Alex Lesnar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Johnathan Palmer!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Dirk Anderson and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lesnar shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lesnar is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Palmer is just riding it out for now. Lesnar eventually gives up the hold.
Lesnar not doing much here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lesnar is keen to just control but Palmer is a slippery customer.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lesnar is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Palmer is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Lesnar in particular looking to stall.

Lesnar is trying to work for a kimura but Palmer is defending well.
Lesnar thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Lesnar drops an elbow to the side of Palmer's head.

Lesnar is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Palmer sees it coming and defends easily.
Lesnar could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Lesnar is taking a breather. Palmer says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Lesnar tries to pass to full mount but Palmer defends it.
Lesnar throwing shots but Palmer is blocking nicely.
Lesnar seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Palmer avoids a kick to the body.
Palmer tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Lesnar manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Lesnar throws a quick counter head kick but Palmer was just out of range.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Lesnar shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Lesnar showed some decent athleticism there.
Palmer preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Lesnar controlling the pace.
Lesnar looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Lesnar seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Palmer does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Palmer tries to get to full guard but Lesnar has control of the leg.
Palmer is trying to maintain the position but Lesnar is very close to passing his half guard.
Lesnar prevents Palmer from improving his position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Lesnar seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Palmer lands a jab to the nose.
Lesnar misses with a combination
and Palmer counters with a two punch combo.
Palmer lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
A left lands for Palmer.
Palmer moves into range and connects with a jab.
Palmer scores with a shot to the body.
Nice straight punches there by Palmer. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Palmer.
Palmer tries to clinch but Lesnar is having none of it.
Lesnar is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Palmer.

Palmer moves into the clinch successfully.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Palmer gets through Lesnar's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Lesnar fails to pull guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Palmer fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Lesnar has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Palmer after a bit of a struggle.
Palmer has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Lesnar jumps guard but Palmer stands there with Lesnar around his waist. Lesnar gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alex Lesnar. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A right hook to the body lands for Palmer.
Lesnar changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Palmer fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Lesnar is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Palmer closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Palmer scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Lesnar doesn't seem bothered though.
Palmer stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Alex Lesnar is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Palmer dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Lesnar moves in looking to clinch but Palmer pushes him off.
Lesnar throws a head kick that misses
and Palmer counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Lesnar thinking.
Palmer lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Palmer jabs at Lesnar's body.
Palmer has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Lesnar shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Lesnar was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Palmer tries to bench press Lesnar off him but Lesnar keeps the position.
Lesnar wants to control but Palmer is keeping him busy.

Palmer is looking to reverse the position.
Lesnar wants to take a breather but Palmer manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Lesnar.
Lesnar trying to control the position from guard on top but Palmer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Lesnar has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Palmer is proving hard to escape from.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Palmer moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Palmer is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Lesnar misses with a takedown attempt
and Palmer connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Johnathan Palmer seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Palmer jabs at Lesnar's body.
Lesnar is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Palmer.

Lesnar forces Palmer back against the cage and clinches.
Palmer tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Lesnar's elbow.
A right hand to the body from Palmer.
A short right from Palmer on the inside.
Palmer lands a right hand.
Palmer lands a body shot in the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Johnathan Palmer showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Palmer clobbers Lesnar with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Lesnar closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Lesnar prevents Palmer from improving his position.
Lesnar wants to get back to his feet.

Palmer is not content to let Lesnar control the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Palmer lands with a good body shot.
Lesnar takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Palmer stuns Lesnar with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Palmer avoids the head kick by Lesnar.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Palmer lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Lesnar at a distance.
Palmer closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Lesnar on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Palmer cracks a nice hook into Lesnar's ribs.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Lesnar throws the kick towards the body but Palmer avoids it.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Palmer! But no joy.
Palmer scores with the left hand. Lesnar knows he should have avoided that one.
Palmer tries to clinch up but Lesnar circles away and keeps his distance.
Lesnar gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Palmer.
Palmer bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Lesnar's head.
Palmer wants to clinch up but Lesnar keeps it at a distance.
Lesnar tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Palmer paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Lesnar walks into a jab.
Palmer moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Palmer scores with a jab to the body.

Lesnar manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Palmer on his heels. He'll look to pass Palmer's guard now, I'm sure.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Lesnar accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Lesnar moves forwards but Palmer connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Johnathan Palmer comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Palmer has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A very excited looking Johnathan Palmer rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
