Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fritz Gates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Adam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Adam has chosen COCO as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Fritz Gates!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Adam!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Gwen Towbar and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Adam works the jab nicely.


It looks like Fritz Gates has been cut.
Adam throws a head kick but Gates moves out of range.
Adam is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Gates drops down looking for a counter takedown but Adam sprawls and moves away.

Gates moves into the clinch.

Gates jumps guard.
Adam stays in close to Gates's body and controls the position.
Adam throwing strikes but missing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gates is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Adam is controlling him.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Gates attempts a counter takedown but Adam avoids it well and moves away.

and Adam counters with a left and a right that stings Gates.

Gates blocks a head kick by Adam.

Adam has taken the fight to the clinch.
Gates is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Gates is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Gates tries to throw a body punch but Adam avoids it by throwing Gates back against the cage.
Adam should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Adam manages to break the clinch.
Adam shoots in but no luck this time.
Gates is looking for a counter combo.
A combination from Adam does no damage.
Adam throws a nice looking combination but Gates bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

John Adam seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Adam throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Adam misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Gates is looking to counter the offense by Adam and move into the clinch.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Adam.

Adam thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Gates tries to escape but Adam is in control.

Gates explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Gates moves in looking to clinch but Adam pushes him off.

Gates rushes Adam and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Adam jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Gates walks away with a smile on his face. Adam gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Gates fails with an attempt to clinch.
Adam is looking for the big counter here.
Adam throws a body shot but no joy.
Gates half committed to a counter leg kick.
Gates avoids a punch combination nicely.
Gates is looking for a counter combo.
A combination from Adam does no damage.

John Adam dominated that round.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Adam rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Gates moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Adam misses with a takedown attempt - Gates sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Fritz Gates has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Adam.

and Gates counters with a single leg into guard. Adam didn't expect that.
Gates with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Adam has a closed guard, preventing Gates from standing up.
Gates postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Gates has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Adam is proving hard to escape from.
Gates working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Gates working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Adam's head.
Gates lands a couple of digs.
Gates will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Gates is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Gates scoring with some ground and pound.
Adam pulls Gates in close to prevent any damage.
Gates postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Gates decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Adam, up you get!
Gates wants to clinch up but Adam keeps it at a distance.
Adam swinging wildly here.
Adam closes the distance and clinches up with Gates, looking for a takedown. Adam pushes Gates against the cage but Gates circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Adam tries to bum rush Gates with a series of wild strikes but Gates uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Gates tries to counter with a takedown but Adam is quick to defend against it.
Adam lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Adam misses with an uppercut.
Gates went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Gates has taken the fight to the clinch.
Gates stalling.
The referee calls for Gates to work.
Adam prevents a body shot from Gates.
Gates struggles to land a body shot inside as Adam controls his hands.
Adam tries to break the clinch but Gates is controlling the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Adam manages to break the clinch.
Gates has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Gates attempts a counter takedown but Adam avoids it well and moves away.

Oooooh!!! Adam has knocked Gates down with a huge combo! Adam steps away and waves a wobbly Gates back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!


Gates is rocked!
Adam has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Adam connects with a jab, followed by a picture perfect straight right that sends Gates to the canvas, out cold! What a finish by Adam!

John Adam took his opportunity to call for a title shot in his post fight interview.
