Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jere Spence!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jon Morgan!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Kenichi Hosakawa and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Morgan tries to clinch

so Spence counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Spence postures up.

Morgan is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Spence keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Morgan's head.

Spence lands a couple of digs.
Morgan wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Spence is now in half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Spence winds up and cracks Morgan with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Spence lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Morgan is looking to improve his position.
Spence looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Morgan tries to get to full guard but Spence has control of the leg.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Spence lands with a punch from half guard.
Morgan wants to get back to full guard but Spence has mounted him!

Spence postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Morgan looks a forlorn figure.

Spence could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Morgan wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Spence closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Spence lands in his opponent's guard.

Jere Spence overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Morgan can't keep his opponent in guard - Spence advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Spence is taking a breather. Morgan says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Morgan is trying to control but can't.

Spence content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Morgan throws a sloppy strike from the bottom. He's now off balance and Spence manages to pass to side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Spence is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Morgan can do to turn this around?
Spence cracks Morgan with a big right hand but Morgan just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Spence has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Spence seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Morgan for as long as he can get away with.
You can see the frustration on Morgan's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Morgan feints and as Spence raises his hands in defense, Morgan changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Spence manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Morgan drags the fight down to the ground.
Spence distracts Morgan with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Spence works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Spence in particular looking to stall.
Morgan on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Spence drops an elbow to the side of Morgan's head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Morgan tries to roll over but Spence keeps him under control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jere Spence dominated that second round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Morgan closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Spence to the mat! Spence manages to get full guard.

Spence manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Morgan gets underhooks to prevent Spence's takedown attempt.

Spence jumps guard and drags Morgan to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Spence has control of Morgan's left arm, preventing Morgan from doing any damage.
Morgan is looking to stand up but Spence won't let him.
Spence has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Spence might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Morgan slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Morgan wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Spence, who protects the arm well.
Spence is trying to control Morgan's posture but Morgan avoids it.
Spence manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Spence takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Spence seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Spence prevents Morgan from improving his position.
Spence is taking a breather. Morgan says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Morgan wants to sweep but Spence has passed to side control!
Morgan takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Spence's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Morgan tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Spence presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Spence cracks Morgan with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Morgan is wriggling around trying to escape.
Spence dominating with strikes here.
Spence lands a big elbow.
Spence landing strikes from the mount.
Spence lands a nice shot to the head.
Spence with a couple of short strikes.
Morgan taking shots to the head.
Spence is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Spence lands a big shot there that rocks Morgan but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Spence has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Morgan's face.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jere Spence showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Spence, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
