PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between John White (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jax Marciano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jax Marciano will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, John White!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jax Marciano!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Colin Fray and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

White gets a takedown into half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. White lands a nice short elbow.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Marciano actively working from the bottom here.
Marciano flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
White wants to pass the guard but Marciano is defending well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Marciano wants to get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.

White seems to be looking for submissions.
White controlling the action here.
White scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
White is just content to waste time from the top position. Marciano takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Marciano wants to sweep but no luck.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
White stands up over Marciano, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

White got a little sloppy there for a moment and Marciano has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, White has managed to get both his arms back between Marciano's legs - danger averted.

White is standing up over Marciano. Marciano looks to escape but White dives into side control.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
White showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Marciano.
White was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Marciano throws a sloppy head kick and White moves out of range easily.
White tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Marciano manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Marciano instigates a clinch.

Marciano escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Marciano clinches with his opponent.

Marciano's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

White shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Marciano is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. White presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Marciano should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
White is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Marciano controlling the action here for a moment.

Marciano breaks the clinch.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Marciano enables White to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Marciano manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
White is breathing heavily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
White works a leg free and moves into half guard.

White decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Marciano takes the fight into the clinch.
White struggles to land a body shot inside as Marciano controls his hands.
Marciano connects with a knee to the head.

Marciano breaks from the clinch.
White is trying hard to land a takedown here. Marciano sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Marciano closes this distance looking for a takedown but White circles away.
Marciano tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but White defends well and Marciano ends up having to push White into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Marciano gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Marciano controls White momentarily but White frees himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jax Marciano will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Marciano closes the distance and clinches.
White wants to break the clinch but can't.
White wants to get back to striking at distance but Marciano won't allow it.
White fails to pull guard.

Marciano breaks from the clinch.

White darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
White thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Marciano's head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

White looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

White working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Marciano's thigh. Marciano counters though and makes it back to full guard.
Marciano wants to stand and escape but White is having none of it.
Marciano trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

White is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Marciano is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Marciano has escaped and now he's on top!
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Marciano accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Marciano throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Marciano slaps away a takedown attempt from White, before circling back to the center of the mat.
John White is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Marciano gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Marciano has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by White after a bit of a struggle.

Marciano manages to break the clinch.
Marciano is looking to clinch.
White throws a body shot but no joy.
Marciano shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts White as he jumps to the side.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Marciano checks the leg kick.
White slaps away a takedown attempt from Marciano, before circling back to the center of the mat.
John White has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jax Marciano.

Marciano has taken the fight to the clinch.
The referee calls for Marciano to work.
Marciano gets underhooks to prevent White's takedown attempt.
Marciano can't get the takedown.
Marciano is struggling to control the position.
White is looking to control Marciano's arms but Marciano gets an underhook and turns him. Now White has his back to the cage.

Marciano is trying to stall.
White wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Marciano tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. White just stands there and leans against the cage.

Marciano gets control of White's arms and successfully pulls guard. Marciano will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Marciano is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
White wants to control from the top but Marciano keeps moving.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Jax Marciano showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

White drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
White trying to control the action but Marciano is working from the bottom.
Marciano sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
White tries to pass to full mount but Marciano defends it.
Marciano has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. White is working away from the top position though.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
White passes to full mount!

White tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

White moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Marciano has worked his arm free - good work by Marciano!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Marciano is looking to work his way out of this bad position but White is controlling him well.

Marciano trying to control but White flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!

White wants to control the position but Marciano frees himself and scrambles - White manages to regain control in side control.

Marciano comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Marciano is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but White is defending well.
White takes an elbow to the forehead.
Jax Marciano seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.

Marciano breaks the clinch.
Marciano throws a front kick that sends White stumbling back into the cage.
Marciano lands a jab-cross combination.

Marciano closes the distance and clinches up with White, looking for a takedown. Marciano pushes White against the cage but White circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Marciano drives through and clinches with White against the cage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
White is trying to push Marciano away but Marciano has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Marciano drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
John White has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jax Marciano.
Marciano putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has White in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.
Marciano jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as White walks away with a smile on his face. Marciano gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
White circles away from the clinch attempt.
White takes a body punch but keeps moving.
John White has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jax Marciano is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Marciano has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Marciano lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jax Marciano comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Marciano winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
