PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Grant Morrison (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tom Kruiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kruiz is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: ZARILA KANDZE. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Grant Morrison!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tom Kruiz!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Albert Achterberg and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Morrison misses with a wild body shot.
Nice takedown defense from Morrison. No joy for Kruiz on that attempt.
Kruiz misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Kruiz avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Kruiz tries to counter by closing the distance.
Morrison takes a swing at Kruiz's ribcage but misses.

Grant Morrison has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tom Kruiz.

so Kruiz counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kruiz stands and throws Morrison's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Kruiz is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Morrison is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Kruiz tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Kruiz has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The ground and pound from Kruiz seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Kruiz goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Morrison rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Kruiz's guard! Nice work there by Morrison!

Kruiz drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Morrison defends it well.
Grant Morrison is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
No joy there for Morrison, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
And Kruiz tries to counter it with a takedown but Morrison pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Morrison misses with a hook. Kruiz ducked under it nicely.
A slow jab from Morrison misses its intended target.
Morrison misses with a low kick.
A bone on bone clash there as Kruiz blocks the leg kick.
Kruiz on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Morrison pivots, looking for a leg kick but Kruiz is out of range and Morrison settles back down.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kruiz fails with a takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Tom Kruiz will probably get the nod.

A looping hook to the body misses from Morrison. Kruiz does a little dance to reset his feet.
Kruiz steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Morrison.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Morrison stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kruiz swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Morrison swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Kruiz fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Kruiz shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Morrison is trying to defend but Kruiz finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Kruiz drops back looking for a leg! Morrison is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Morrison manages to kick Kruiz off! Kruiz jumps back into Morrison's guard.
Kruiz has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Tom Kruiz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Morrison throws a right hand that misses

and Kruiz counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Morrison is looking to control Kruiz's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Morrison avoid being mounted?
Kruiz passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Morrison!
Kruiz wants to control the pace but Morrison is squirming around nicely.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Kruiz is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by Kruiz!
