PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Franklin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dave Rawlings (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dave Rawlings told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Frank Franklin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Dave Rawlings!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Winston Alpacca and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Franklin uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Rawlings.
Franklin takes a head kick and shrugs it off.

Rawlings moves into the clinch successfully.
Rawlings tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Rawlings.
Franklin stops a takedown attempt from Rawlings.
Rawlings working some nice short punches in the clinch.
Franklin is trying to force a seperation but Rawlings has the dominant position.
Franklin tries to stall but Rawlings uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Rawlings pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Franklin closes the distance and pushes Rawlings back into the cage.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Still in the clinch, Rawlings scores with a nice short uppercut.

Franklin is trying to push Rawlings away but Rawlings has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Rawlings fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Franklin avoids it really well and circles away.

Rawlings clinches up with Franklin and pushes him back against the cage.
Franklin is trying to maintain a safe position but Rawlings gets an underhook and turns Franklin into the cage.
Rawlings lands a nice knee to the body.
Rawlings wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Franklin manages to break the clinch.
Franklin throws a sloppy head kick
and Rawlings counters with a stiff right hand.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Rawlings has managed to clinch.
Rawlings throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Franklin blocks it with crossed arms.

Franklin jumps into guard, dragging Rawlings to the mat.
Franklin wants to sweep here but Rawlings controlling him for the moment.

Rawlings won't allow Franklin to sweep him here.
Franklin looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Franklin is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Rawlings slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Let's hope that Rawlings has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Rawlings avoids the head kick by Franklin.
Rawlings wants to counter the offense by Franklin and move into the clinch position.
Rawlings is looking to clinch.

A nice inside leg kick there by Rawlings. That's going to slow Franklin down.
The fight stays on the outside here - Rawlings looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Franklin fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Rawlings to the ground. Franklin is now in Rawlings's guard.
Franklin wants to get up but he can't break Rawlings's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Rawlings enables Franklin to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Rawlings manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Frank Franklin.
Well Rawlings has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
