PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ryo Sawamura (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Will Hannon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ryo Sawamura!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Will Hannon!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Illya Tyunina and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hannon closes the distance and pushes Sawamura back into the ropes.
Sawamura could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Hannon has hold of one of Sawamura's legs. Sawamura is fighting the takedown attempt but Hannon gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Hannon is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Hannon wants to get up but he can't break Sawamura's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Sawamura is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Hannon doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Sawamura.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Sawamura keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.

Hannon throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Sawamura tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Hannon is in Sawamura's guard.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Hannon working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Sawamura has a closed guard, preventing Hannon from standing up.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Hannon closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Sawamura did well to prevent Hannon getting side control.
Hannon thows a huge punch but Sawamura dodges it nicely.
Hannon wants to take a breather but Sawamura is having none of it.
Hannon wants to stand up but Sawamura has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Hannon would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Hannon chips away with some ground and pound.
Hannon is working Sawamura over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Sawamura gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

That's time! Sawamura's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Sawamura shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hannon pinned against the ropes. Hannon gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Will Hannon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Sawamura sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

Hannon has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Sawamura regains guard immediately.

Well Hannon has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
