PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Lane Perry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cuneyt Arkin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lane Perry!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cuneyt Arkin!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Gwen Towbar and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Perry pushes Arkin up against the cage in a clinch.
Perry wants to break the clinch but can't.

Arkin lands a takedown into guard.
Perry looking to hit a scissor sweep but Arkin is one step ahead there.
Perry controls Arkin momentarily but Arkin frees himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Perry is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Arkin won't allow Perry to sweep him here.
Arkin must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Perry is working hard here to advance position.
Perry trying to strike off his back.
Perry looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Perry lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Arkin looks winded!
Perry is looking to work some ground and pound but Arkin has wrist control.
Perry postures up in Arkin's guard and throws a big left but Arkin blocks it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Arkin is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Arkin wants to get back to his feet but Perry is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Perry throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Perry tries to clinch there but Arkin circles away.

Perry gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Arkin has clasped his hands together around Perry's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Perry manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Perry is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Perry has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Perry is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Arkin has managed to free his arm - good work.

Perry stands up from half guard.

Perry moves into the clinch.
Perry really is a fat lump.
Perry has had enough of the clinch but Arkin keeps him there for the moment.

Arkin gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Perry makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Perry.
Perry striking off his back but it's not causing Arkin any problems.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Perry trying to keep a closed guard but Arkin is proving a slippery customer.
Arkin looking to sit in guard and control but Perry gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Perry drops back looking for a leg! Arkin is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Arkin manages to kick Perry off! Perry jumps back into Arkin's guard.
Perry loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lane Perry dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Perry tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Arkin swivels and escapes.
Perry tries to close the distance and clinch but Arkin swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
And Arkin responds with a good body kick, but Perry manages to step out the way in time.
Perry shoots for a takedown but Arkin saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Perry is looking to clinch but Arkin is avoiding it.

and Arkin decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Perry's guard.
Perry lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Perry with a flurry of punches that miss.
Arkin wants to stand but Perry is controlling the position.

Perry thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Our spies down at at Cozad MMA Las Vegas inform us that Arkin has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Arkin avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Arkin is working an open guard so Perry takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Perry looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lane Perry. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Perry is looking to clinch.
Arkin throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Arkin throws a series of punches but Perry avoids them all with ease.
Perry is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Arkin.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Perry is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Arkin throws the left hand but Perry avoids the punch easily.
It appears Perry was looking to counter with a kick there.
Perry misses with a body shot.
Left hook, right uppercut from Perry.
Perry tries to close the distance and clinch up but Arkin swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Arkin avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Arkin shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Arkin is thwarting Perry's attempts to control the position.
Perry manages to get to full guard.
Arkin preventing the sweep.
Arkin throws a big elbow that misses.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Perry wants to sweep but no luck.
Perry throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Perry looking for a guillotine here but Arkin defends easily.
Arkin content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Arkin lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cuneyt Arkin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Arkin closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Perry's guard.

Perry working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Arkin doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Arkin manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Perry doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Arkin trying to control the position from guard on top but Perry is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Perry has his foot on Arkin's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Arkin works his way back into a safe position though.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Perry bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Arkin's guard.

Perry stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Lane Perry is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Perry shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Arkin as he avoids it easily.
Arkin keeps the fight on the outside.
Perry tries to close the distance and clinch up but Arkin swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Arkin feints the counter takedown.

Arkin shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Perry is refusing to be controlled, as Arkin sits in half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Perry is trying to maintain the position but Arkin is very close to passing his half guard.
Perry tries to roll over but Arkin keeps him under control.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Arkin lands a nice short elbow.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Perry is pressing down on Arkin's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Perry working a defensive guard but Arkin manages to pass into side control anyway.
Perry is trying to get back to half guard.
Arkin working away.
Perry is looking to reverse the position.
Perry wants to control but Arkin postures up.
Perry tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Arkin wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Arkin creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Perry wants to control but Arkin postures up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Perry.
Perry fails with an attempt to clinch.
Arkin keeps the fight on the outside.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Perry wants to clinch but Arkin slips to the side

and Arkin counters with a shoot takedown. Perry fights it but they end up in guard.
Perry looking to control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Cuneyt Arkin comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Arkin has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
