PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Joe Cox (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leonard Vonstatner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cox decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Vonstatner avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Cox.
Cox tries to pass the half guard into mount. Vonstatner knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Cox wants to take a breather but Vonstatner is having none of it.
Vonstatner is trying to get back to full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cox takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Vonstatner is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Vonstatner is staying active underneath Cox, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Cox wants to clinch but Vonstatner slips to the side
and Vonstatner counters with a stiff right hand.
Vonstatner blocks a low kick nicely.
Cox throws a poor cross that misses
and Vonstatner counters with a straight right hand.
Cox shoots and misses
and Vonstatner counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Cox tries for a takedown but Vonstatner circles away easily
and Vonstatner counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Vonstatner shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Cox eats them both and turns towards Vonstatner to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Cox misses with a few strikes there.

Vonstatner fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Cox to the ground. Vonstatner is now in Cox's guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Vonstatner postures up and lands a big shot to Cox's brow.
Vonstatner postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Vonstatner throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Cox works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Cox controls Vonstatner momentarily but Vonstatner frees himself.
Cox is breathing heavily.
Vonstatner works over Cox with some ground and pound from guard.
Vonstatner trying to control but Cox is working from the bottom.
Cox is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Cox is looking to take a break and control but Vonstatner is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vonstatner tries to roll over but Cox keeps him under control.
Vonstatner is looking to control Cox's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Vonstatner avoid being mounted?

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Vonstatner wants to control but Cox is keeping busy.
Vonstatner has his hands clasped together around Cox's back. He's all about the action.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Vonstatner darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Cox lands a nice leg kick that just misses Vonstatner's sensitive parts.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Leonard Vonstatner will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Cox tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Leonard Vonstatner seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Cox doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Vonstatner counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Cox throws a head kick that misses.
Vonstatner ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

and Vonstatner counters with a single leg into guard. Cox didn't expect that.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Vonstatner is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Cox has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Vonstatner is looking to defend but Cox has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Vonstatner! Cox pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Vonstatner taps out and this one is all over!
