PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Mada Fakker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Sai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mada Fakker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Joe Sai!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fakker throws a sloppy head kick
and Sai counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
Fakker lands a high kick!

Sai closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Fakker did well to prevent Sai getting side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sai looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Sai missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Fakker is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Fakker has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Sai is working away from the top position though.

Sai looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Sai moves nicely into side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Sai working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Fakker wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Fakker is trying to escape the position but Sai is controlling the position.
Fakker wants to get back to his feet but Sai drags him back down.
Sai is staying tight to Fakker's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Sai avoids the strikes from the bottom by Fakker.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Sai decides to stand back up.
Sai takes a head kick and shrugs it off.

Fakker has closed the distance and engaged Sai in a clinch.

Sai slows down the pace here.

Sai gets control of Fakker's arms and successfully pulls guard. Sai will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Sai manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Fakker manages to get himself to full guard.

Sai not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fakker is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Sai scoring with punches to the head and body.
Sai seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Sai decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Fakker, up you get!
Sai stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Sai wants it to stay on the feet.
Fakker is breathing heavily.
Sai showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Fakker.

Sai manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Fakker on his heels. He'll look to pass Fakker's guard now, I'm sure.
Fakker is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Sai dives into side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Sai working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Sai remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Sai has an Americana. Fakker didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Sai is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Sai hooks up with any of them at the after show party.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Joe Sai!
