PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Arstan Selmy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hunter Akbar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Akbar's choice of entrance music: New Slaves. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Arstan Selmy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hunter Akbar!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Kenichi Hosakawa and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Selmy throws an overhand right that lands on Akbar's shoulder, as Akbar tries to avoid the shot.
Selmy is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Akbar tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Selmy manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Selmy misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Akbar.
Selmy ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Akbar moves away.
Akbar is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
A head kick by Selmy misses
and Akbar counters with a series of strikes. Selmy will be more careful next time no doubt.
Akbar ducks right into an uppercut from Selmy.
Selmy connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Akbar with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Selmy to score with a decent uppercut.
Selmy has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Akbar has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Selmy.
Selmy throws a leg kick which misses Akbar's front leg but catches the back leg as Akbar tries to avoid it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Akbar scores with a takedown into Selmy's guard.
Akbar tries to free his leg and advance position but Selmy is retaining full guard.

Selmy has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Akbar can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Akbar wants to control from the top but Selmy keeps moving.

Selmy looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Akbar passes into half guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Selmy tries to get to full guard but Akbar has control of the leg.

Akbar working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Selmy's thigh. Selmy counters though and makes it back to full guard.
Akbar is working Selmy over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Akbar wants to control from the top but Selmy keeps moving.
Akbar postures up in Selmy's guard and throws a big left but Selmy blocks it.
Akbar is looking to work some ground and pound but Selmy has wrist control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Selmy throws a head kick that misses.
Akbar tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
A decent looking cross lands there for Selmy.
Selmy dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Selmy misses with a body kick.
Selmy will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
A punch combination from Selmy misses.
Akbar showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Selmy.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Akbar fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Selmy, pushing him back against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Arstan Selmy dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Selmy missing with a left hand there. Akbar was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Akbar looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Akbar avoids the head kick by Selmy.
Selmy misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Selmy swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Selmy tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Akbar was well out of range. Poor timing from Selmy.
Hunter Akbar is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Selmy misses with a head kick.
Selmy misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Akbar is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Selmy goes for a high kick. It partially lands.


It looks like Hunter Akbar has been cut.
Arstan Selmy is winning the standup battle so far.
Akbar on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Selmy misses with a double jab.
The fight stays on the outside here - Akbar looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Selmy fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Akbar is out of range.
Akbar with the counter takedown but Selmy avoids it easily.

Akbar moves into the clinch.
Selmy scores with a shoulder strike.

Akbar turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Akbar manages to end up in side control.

Akbar thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Selmy is looking for a sweep.

Akbar has hold of Selmy's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Selmy seems comfortable defending it but Akbar has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Selmy is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Selmy is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Akbar couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Hunter Akbar!
