The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fernandez dives in for a single leg takedown but Hays sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
A counter left hand to the body from Hays misses its target.
Brayann Fernandez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Fernandez leaves Hays with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Fernandez fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Hays avoids it really well and circles away.
Hays darts in looking for a takedown but Fernandez gets double underhooks and turns Hays into the cage.

Fernandez has closed the distance and engaged Hays in a clinch.
Hays is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Fernandez pulls him back up using the underhooks.
