Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jere Spence!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Liam The Viking!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Kenichi Hosakawa and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Spence fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with The Viking, pushing him back against the cage.
The Viking looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

The Viking breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Liam The Viking seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The Viking shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Spence tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Spence controlling The Viking's posture.
The Viking controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Spence really is a fat lump.
Spence pulls The Viking in to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Spence tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The Viking being controlled here momentarily.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

The Viking closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Spence is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Spence continues to stall.

Spence controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Spence regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from The Viking.
Spence pulls The Viking in close to prevent any damage.
The Viking would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Spence gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows The Viking to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Spence has his feet on The Viking's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Spence fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with The Viking, pushing him back against the cage.

Spence gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
The Viking utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Spence engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The Viking has his hands on Spence's head, controlling the position.
Spence won't allow The Viking to sweep him here.
The Viking is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That's time! Spence's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


The Viking tries to clinch up

and Spence counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Spence is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Spence here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

The Viking is breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The Viking has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Spence can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Jere Spence overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Spence has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The Viking fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Spence to the ground. The Viking is now in Spence's guard.

Spence has his feet on The Viking's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
The Viking has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Spence is landing a low percentage of strikes.
The Viking wants to clinch

and Spence counters with a shoot takedown. The Viking fights it but they end up in guard.

Spence is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The Viking wants to sweep but no luck.
Spence controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Spence's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Spence might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Spence pushes The Viking off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Spence dives in and scores a takedown into The Viking's guard.
The Viking is looking to stand back up but Spence counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by The Viking.

Spence shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. The Viking is trying to defend but Spence finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Well, if Spence is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Spence moves into range and connects with a jab.

Spence gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Spence is on top in guard.

Spence cracks The Viking with a solid left hand.
Spence stays in close to The Viking's body and controls the position.
The Viking wants to get back to his feet but Spence passes into half guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

and Spence counters with a nice double leg into side control. The Viking won't be happy with that.
Liam The Viking has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jere Spence is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
