Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jim Paterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sandro Rios (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jim Paterson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sandro Rios!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, John Kavanagh and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rios lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Paterson circles away quickly and effectively.
Rios staying out of range there.
Rios is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Sandro Rios seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Paterson fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Nice uppercut there from Rios.


It looks like Jim Paterson has been cut.
Paterson looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Rios takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Rios takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Paterson bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Rios's head backwards.
Rios takes a swing at Paterson's ribcage but misses.
Paterson was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Paterson.
Paterson wants to get back to striking at distance but Rios won't allow it.
Rios changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Paterson fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Paterson lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Paterson.

Paterson is pressed up against the cage. Rios has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Paterson down to the mat. Paterson avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Paterson gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Rios.

Rios pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Rios throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Paterson cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rios is looking to stand up but Paterson isn't so interested in that idea.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Rios working for a triangle but Paterson defends it easily.

Rios lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Paterson wants to sweep but no luck.
Rios tries to free his leg and advance position but Paterson is retaining full guard.
Paterson can't keep his opponent in guard - Rios advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Rios passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Paterson!
Rios wants to control the pace but Paterson is squirming around nicely.

Paterson is squirming around, avoiding Rios's attempts to control the action.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Paterson is desperately trying to improve his position but Rios has a good base and remains in mount.
Rios tries to control but Paterson wriggling away.

Sandro Rios showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Rios throws the left hand but Paterson avoids the punch easily.

Rios drives through and clinches with Paterson against the cage.

Rios is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Paterson is aware though and is defending well.

Paterson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rios on the ground.

Rios is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Paterson defends well.
Paterson is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Paterson prevents Rios from getting back to his feet.
Rios is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Still in half guard, Rios seems content to control.
Paterson keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Rios is trying to control the action in half guard but Paterson is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Paterson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rios is working away from the top position though.

Rios tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Paterson.

Paterson is staying active underneath Rios, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Paterson tries to roll over but Rios keeps him under control.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Rios throws a series of punches but Paterson moves out of range.
Paterson is looking for a counter combo.

Rios gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

I would just about give that final round to Sandro Rios.
I think Rios has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
