PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rice Pilaf (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Abbott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pilaf comes into the arena with chinese rap blaring out of the sound system. Abbott has chosen Cigarettes And Alcohol as his entrance music. The key to victory for Rice Pilaf has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rice Pilaf!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Frank Abbott!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Abbott stuffs the takedown attempt from Pilaf. Pilaf gets slowly back to his feet.
Abbott throws an overhand right that lands on Pilaf's shoulder, as Pilaf tries to avoid the shot.
Pilaf moves in looking to clinch but Abbott pushes him off.
Abbott throws a low kick but Pilaf avoids it.
Pilaf closes this distance looking for a takedown but Abbott circles away.
Abbott throws a hook to the side of Pilaf's head but Pilaf sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Abbott connects with a single shot there.
Abbott swats away the attempt to clinch by Pilaf.
Pilaf tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Pilaf shoots for a double leg takedown but Abbott sprawls well. He's pushed Pilaf's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rice Pilaf. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Pilaf clobbers Abbott with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Pilaf connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Pilaf closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Pilaf is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Abbott is pushing down on Pilaf's leg trying to pass to half guard. Pilaf is fighting to maintain full guard but Abbott has managed to sneak the leg through.

Abbott wants to take a breather but Pilaf is having none of it.

Abbott is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Pilaf has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Abbott can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Abbott is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Pilaf has managed to free his arm - good work.

Abbott postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Pilaf is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Abbott, into his guard.

Abbott lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Pilaf is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Abbott swats away the attempt to clinch by Pilaf.
Pilaf doesn't manage to clinch there - Abbott circles away.
Frank Abbott seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pilaf cracks Abbott with a right hand to the side of the head.
Pilaf lands an overhand right.
Pilaf throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Abbott's waist but Abbott gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Pilaf off to one side.
Horrible takedown by Pilaf or perhaps it was just good defense by Abbott which made him look bad.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Abbott wants to lay and pray for a moment but Pilaf keeps working.

Abbott swings around for an armbar but Pilaf sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Abbott's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Abbott working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pilaf doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pilaf manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Pilaf stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Abbott swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Pilaf works his foot free and advances to mount.

Pilaf is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Abbott is surviving well by controlling Pilaf's body position as best he can.

Pilaf has control of Abbott's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Abbott regains control of the situation pretty easily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Pilaf in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

That was a close second round but I would say that Rice Pilaf will probably get the nod.

Abbott changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Pilaf tries to avoid it but Abbott manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Pilaf to the ground. Pilaf escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Abbott drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Pilaf dives on top into guard.
