PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Siri Khalsa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Juan Kerr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys are coming into the fight with injuries so let's see if that has a bearing on the fight. Siri Khalsa looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Siri Khalsa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Juan Kerr!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Paulo Santos and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Khalsa shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Khalsa looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Khalsa lands a head kick!

Kerr shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Kerr showed some decent athleticism there.
Kerr stops Khalsa from getting back to his feet.
Kerr wants to pass the guard but Khalsa is defending well.

Kerr seems to be working for a kimura but Khalsa defends the submission attempt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Khalsa works his way to full guard. Good work.
Khalsa will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Kerr tries to free his leg and advance position but Khalsa is retaining full guard.
Kerr wanted to stand there but Khalsa had control of the position.
Khalsa is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Kerr not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Khalsa working for a triangle but Kerr defends it easily.
Khalsa wants to get back to his feet but Kerr passes into half guard.
Kerr scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Kerr is tying to control. Khalsa wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Kerr not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Kerr stops Khalsa from getting back to his feet.
Kerr passes the guard and advances to mount!
Khalsa is trying desperately to improve position.
Khalsa reaches up to try and control the position but Kerr seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Khalsa rolls and tries to escape and now Kerr has his back!
Khalsa is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
Khalsa just looking to survive in the bad position.
Khalsa trying to control the hands but Kerr won't let him.

Kerr lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Khalsa tries to roll but Kerr sticks to his back.
Khalsa just trying to survive but Kerr is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

Kerr is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
Kerr wants to control but Khalsa manages to buck him off and is now in Kerr's guard! Nice work there by Khalsa!
Khalsa has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Kerr looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Khalsa is looking to work some ground and pound but Kerr has wrist control.
Khalsa has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Kerr is proving hard to escape from.
Kerr wants to stand and escape but Khalsa is having none of it.
Khalsa stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kerr swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Khalsa shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Kerr counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Kerr content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Juan Kerr dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Khalsa will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Kerr scores with a kick to the midsection.
Khalsa wants to clinch

and Kerr counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Kerr.
Khalsa controls Kerr momentarily but Kerr frees himself.

Khalsa preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Kerr seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kerr throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Kerr postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Khalsa to stand up.
Siri Khalsa is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Khalsa closes the distance and clinches.
Kerr wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Khalsa has him pressed against the cage.
Khalsa wants a takedown but no success here.
Kerr changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Khalsa fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Kerr is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Kerr controls Khalsa momentarily but Khalsa frees himself.

Kerr seems keen to control Khalsa's posture.

Khalsa decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Kerr, up you get!

Kerr darts in and clinches Khalsa up against the cage.
Kerr tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Khalsa just stands there and leans against the cage.

Khalsa breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Kerr scores with a takedown into Khalsa's guard.

Kerr decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Khalsa, up you get!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

and Kerr counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Khalsa!
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Siri Khalsa. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Kerr is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Khalsa can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Khalsa wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.

Kerr is looking for the choke from the back position but Khalsa is controlling his hands well.
Khalsa tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Kerr looking for a guillotine from mount but Khalsa is having none of it.
Khalsa tries to lock up and control but Kerr gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Kerr jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Khalsa manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Kerr has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Khalsa lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

and Kerr counters with a single leg into guard. Khalsa didn't expect that.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Kerr wants to control from the top but Khalsa keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Juan Kerr showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Kerr instigates a clinch.
Kerr has had enough of the clinch but Khalsa keeps him there for the moment.
Kerr managing to block the knees to the body from Khalsa.
Kerr tries to pull guard but Khalsa won't allow it.
Kerr wants to break the clinch but can't.
Khalsa really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Kerr throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Khalsa blocks it with crossed arms.

Kerr prevents the takedown attempt.
Kerr tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Khalsa smiles and moves away.

Khalsa moves into the clinch successfully.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Kerr is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Khalsa gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Siri Khalsa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Juan Kerr.
Kerr tries to break the clinch but Khalsa is controlling the position.

Khalsa misses with a knee to the head.

Khalsa stuffs the takedown attempt from Kerr. Kerr gets slowly back to his feet.

Kerr swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Kerr works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Kerr loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Kerr connects with a couple of short punches.

Kerr is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Kerr shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Khalsa as he jumps to the side.
Khalsa thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Kerr if he has to take too many more of those.

Kerr feints and as Khalsa raises his hands in defense, Kerr changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Kerr stays in close to Khalsa's body and controls the position.
Khalsa keeping full guard, as Kerr tries to pass.
Kerr wants to stand and escape but instead Khalsa has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Kerr throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

Khalsa wants to stand but Kerr has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Kerr is pulling down on Khalsa's head to control his posture.

Khalsa gets to his feet. Kerr looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Khalsa attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.

Kerr darts in and clinches Khalsa up against the cage.
Siri Khalsa has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Juan Kerr comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Kerr winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
