PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Raphael Bowie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Onkel Bergmann (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bowie comes to the cage accompanied by 300 Violin Orchestra - Jorge Quintero. Bergmann has chosen Never Give Up as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Raphael Bowie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Onkel Bergmann!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Chris Edwards and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bergmann walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Bowie checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Bowie shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Bowie drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Bergmann looking for a guillotine here but Bowie defends easily.
Bowie wants to pass the guard but Bergmann is keeping the position.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bergmann is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Bergmann bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Bowie's guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Bergmann throws a leg kick which misses Bowie's front leg but catches the back leg as Bowie tries to avoid it.

Bergmann darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Bowie is staying active underneath Bergmann, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Bowie has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Bergmann is working away from the top position though.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Bergmann lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Bergmann is looking for a triangle but Bowie pushes his legs off easily.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Bergmann shoots in for a takedown but Bowie shows good takedown defense.
Bowie half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Bowie lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Bowie.
Bowie will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Bergmann changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Bowie looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Bowie scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Bergmann tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Bowie is able to avoid easily.
Bergmann misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Bowie looks to land a right hand but Bergmann moved out of range.

Bergmann darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Bergmann thows a huge punch but Bowie dodges it nicely.
Bergmann has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bergmann is taking a breather. Bowie says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Some bone on bone action there as Bowie checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Bergmann throws a body shot but no joy.
Bowie feinted with a counter takedown.
Bergmann closes the distance and clinches up with Bowie, looking for a takedown. Bergmann pushes Bowie against the cage but Bowie circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Bowie is trying hard to land a takedown here. Bergmann sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Bowie throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Bowie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bergmann swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Bowie cracks Bergmann with an open hand slap.

Bergmann gets caught flat footed, as Bowie shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Bowie throws a strike but Bergmann rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Well Bowie has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
