PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Robin Watts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vladimir Petrakov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vladimir Petrakov will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Robin Watts!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vladimir Petrakov!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Igor Prikhodko and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Watts tries to close the distance and clinch up but Petrakov swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Petrakov gets a double leg takedown into Watts's guard.
Watts doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Watts controlling Petrakov's posture.
Watts has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Watts has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Petrakov wants to pass the guard but Watts is keeping the position.
Petrakov must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Watts manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Petrakov manages to get himself to full guard.

Watts controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Watts makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Watts engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Watts won't allow Petrakov to get back to his feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Watts scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Watts takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Petrakov is trying to stand back up but Watts is controlling him

Watts is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Watts looking to finish Petrakov with some ground and pound. This is bad for Petrakov!

Petrakov tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Petrakov pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Petrakov avoids the body shot from Watts.
Petrakov misses with a head kick.
Petrakov moves in looking to clinch but Watts pushes him off.
Vladimir Petrakov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Petrakov has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Petrakov there as he acknowledges the shot.

Petrakov closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Watts to the mat! Watts manages to get full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Watts is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Petrakov defends well.

Petrakov looking to sit in guard and control but Watts gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Watts won't allow Petrakov to sweep him here.
Watts seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Watts won't allow Petrakov to sweep him here.
Watts is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Petrakov can do to turn this around?
Watts controls from within his opponent's guard.
Watts distracts Petrakov with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Watts with a nice head shot there.
Watts is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Watts's corner is telling him to maintain position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Petrakov throws a body kick that misses.
Petrakov is breathing heavily.

Petrakov shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Watts throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Petrakov looking to sit in guard and control but Watts gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Watts will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Watts throws a big right hand that misses.
Watts controlling from the top position.
Petrakov is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Watts works over Petrakov with some ground and pound from guard.

Watts sitting in guard, not really doing much.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Watts doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Petrakov counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Petrakov.

Watts gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Petrakov regains guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Watts postures up.
Watts scoring with punches to the head and body.
Watts is standing up over Petrakov. Petrakov looks to escape but Watts dives into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Vladimir Petrakov will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!



Petrakov drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Watts pulls Petrakov in close to his closed guard and prevents Petrakov from doing any damage or advancing position.

Petrakov looking to improve position, pressing down on Watts's thigh with his hand. Watts seems to be working to lock up a guilotine though... is Petrakov paying attention? Apparently not! He's locked it up tight! Petrakov's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! Watts picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:40 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Robin Watts!
