PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brant Murray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Mac (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dan Mac told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Brant Murray!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dan Mac!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Trevor Gratis and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some wild striking there from Mac.
Mac blocks a head kick by Murray.

Mac closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Mac lands in his opponent's guard.
Mac wants to pass the guard but Murray is keeping the position.
Mac throws a big right hand that misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mac missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Murray could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Mac sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Murray's guard.
Mac is looking to pass Murray's guard but actually Murray recovers to full guard.
Mac looking to sit in guard and control but Murray gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Murray in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Mac is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Mac kicks Murray off and gets to his feet.
Mac avoids the head kick by Murray.

Mac fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Murray to the ground. Mac is now in Murray's guard.

Mac throws a strike but Murray rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Mac is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Murray with a flurry of punches that miss.
Mac wants to stand and escape but Murray is having none of it.
Murray is working Mac over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Mac has a closed guard, preventing Murray from standing up.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Mac has his feet on Murray's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Mac feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Murray is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Mac is controlling him.

Mac stands up from Murray's guard - Mac perhaps looking for a knockout.

Mac is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Murray's half guard.

Murray regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Mac.

Mac connects with a couple of short punches.
Murray keeping moving, preventing Mac from controlling successfully.
Mac stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Murray swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Murray wants to stand up but Mac is controlling him.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mac scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Mac throws an elbow that misses. Murray uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Mac's guard. Nice move by Murray!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dan Mac dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Murray appears to be looking for a big counter.

Mac gets a double leg takedown into Murray's guard.
Mac throws a strike but Murray rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Murray stands up over Mac, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mac wants to get back to his feet but Murray is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Mac has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Mac bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Murray's guard.

Murray avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Mac trying to control but Murray is working from the bottom.
Mac with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Mac drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Murray manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Mac has Murray in his guard.
Mac is breathing heavily.
Mac has a closed guard, preventing Murray from standing up.
Murray throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Mac has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Murray is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Mac gets a trip takedown into half guard.

Mac working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Murray's thigh. Murray counters though and makes it back to full guard.

Murray had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Mac defends it easily.
Mac wants to control from the top but Murray keeps moving.
Mac throws an elbow that misses. Murray uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Mac's guard. Nice move by Murray!
Murray is standing up over Mac. Mac looks to escape but Murray dives into side control.

Dan Mac has got the better of the ground game so far.
Mac is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Murray is controlling him well.
Mac is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

Murray postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Murray decides to stand back up. Murray steps back and let's Mac get back to his feet.
Murray throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Mac forces Murray back against the cage and clinches.
The referee is keeping an eye on Murray - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Mac has hold of one of Murray's legs. Murray is fighting the takedown attempt but Mac gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Mac stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Murray swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Mac stands up over Murray, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mac wants to pass the guard but Murray is keeping the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dan Mac showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Mac throws a leg kick but Murray sees it coming and moves out of range.
Murray feinted there with a counter leg kick.

Mac drives through with a takedown into Murray's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Murray will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Mac loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Mac not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Murray has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Mac gets the takedown into side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Mac lands a nice forearm strike.
Murray seems a little lost for a moment, as Mac dominates the positioning.
Murray sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Mac throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Murray to regain full guard.

Mac is looking to advance position but Murray has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Murray scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Mac?
Mac tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Mac squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Murray avoids the attempt from Mac to control.
Murray is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Mac can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Murray cracks Mac with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Murray lands a heavy elbow.
Murray raining down shots from the mount!
Mac is working to get back to half guard.
Mac wants to control but Murray is having none of it.
Murray breaks from Mac's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Murray scoring with strikes but Mac is staying in there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The referee warns Mac that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Mac is desperately trying to improve his position but Murray has a good base and remains in mount.
Murray landing strikes from the mount and Mac is in trouble!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Mac is in a horrible position here. Murray smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
BOOM! Murray connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Mac tries to buck Murray off but he can't manage it.
Brant Murray has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Dan Mac is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Murray prevents Mac from getting the reversal.

And that's the end of the fight!
Brant Murray showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Mac has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
