The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice defenses there by Banner.

Phoenix connects with a body shot that sends Banner's belly button to the back.
Banner looks for a takedown but Phoenix sprawls well.
Paul Phoenix seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Banner's coach down at Bobby B's Gem was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Banner's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Banner is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Phoenix lands a nice short elbow.

Phoenix looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Banner with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
