PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Appleseed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anestis Papadopoulos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Anestis Papadopoulos told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Appleseed takes the fight into the clinch.
Appleseed wants a takedown.
Papadopoulos lands a nice knee to the body.
Papadopoulos has Appleseed pressed against the cage.

Papadopoulos decides to pull guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Papadopoulos manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Papadopoulos manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Appleseed manages to get himself to full guard.

Papadopoulos works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Papadopoulos wants to lay and pray for a moment but Appleseed keeps working.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Papadopoulos decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Johnny Appleseed will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Papadopoulos closes this distance looking for a takedown but Appleseed circles away.
Appleseed went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Papadopoulos misses with a head kick.
Papadopoulos dives in for a single leg takedown but Appleseed sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Appleseed shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Papadopoulos pinned against the cage. Papadopoulos gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Horrible takedown attempt by Papadopoulos or perhaps it was just good defense by Appleseed, which made it look bad.

Papadopoulos leaves Appleseed with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Papadopoulos enables Appleseed to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Papadopoulos manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
