PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alistair King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Garcia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Garcia has chosen love drunk as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alistair King!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mark Garcia!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Garcia looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
King tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Garcia swivels and escapes.
Alistair King seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
King looks to clinch
and Garcia counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

King gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Garcia tries to pull guard but King holds him up against the cage and eventually Garcia drops back down to his feet.
King lands with a right to the head.
Garcia wants to get back to striking at distance but King won't allow it.

King gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
King moves nicely into side control.
King misses with the ground and pound.
Garcia is trying to control King's posture but King avoids it.
King scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Garcia to see if he's OK.
Garcia manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Garcia preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Garcia is not content to let King control the position.

Garcia avoiding damage under a succession of punches from King.
King thows a huge punch but Garcia dodges it nicely.
Garcia is trying to control but can't.
King trying to pass the guard but Garcia defending well.

Garcia keeping hold of King's head, controlling as best he can.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Garcia shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and King counters with a nice double leg into side control. Garcia won't be happy with that.
Garcia is not content to let King control the position.

King lands a few punches from side control.
King creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Garcia sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Garcia tries to improve position but can't.
Garcia wants to get back to his feet but King drags him back down.

King decides to stand back up. King steps back and let's Garcia get back to his feet.
King shoots in but Garcia avoids the takedown attempt easily.
King is breathing heavily.
King wants to clinch but Garcia slips to the side
and Garcia counters with a right hand to the body.

King looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Garcia is looking for a triangle but King pushes his legs off easily.
Garcia is trying to keep King in close.
Garcia might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control King kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Garcia is on top in guard.

King looking for a guillotine here but Garcia defends easily.
Garcia tries to free his leg and advance position but King is retaining full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Garcia gets to his feet. King looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
King on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
King doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Garcia counters with a takedown into side control.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alistair King. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Garcia trying to control the position but King is working away.

Garcia has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Garcia tries for a takedown but King circles away easily

and King counters with a takedown into side control.
King with the ground and pound but Garcia regains half guard under the barage of strikes.

King is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alistair King dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Garcia throws a lazy head kick

and King counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
King perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Garcia tries to roll over but King keeps him under control.
Garcia is trying to control but can't.
Garcia is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Garcia is holding on to half guard well.

King is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Garcia defends it well.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Garcia wants to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

King clinches up with Garcia and pushes him back against the cage.
King tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Garcia just stands there and leans against the cage.

Garcia manages to break the clinch.
King tries for a takedown but Garcia circles away easily

and Garcia counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in King's guard now.
Garcia advances position into side control!
King misses with a strike from the bottom.
King is trying to get back to half guard.

Garcia decides to take the fight back to the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
King looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Garcia wants to clinch but King slips to the side

and King moves into the clinch.
Garcia is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Garcia jumps guard but King stands there with Garcia around his waist. Garcia gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Garcia is trying to work for a single leg takedown but King pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Garcia tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Alistair King has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mark Garcia.

Garcia jumps into guard, dragging King to the mat.

Garcia working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. King doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. King manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
King postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

King decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

King has closed the distance and engaged Garcia in a clinch.

Garcia jumps guard and drags King to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Garcia is trying to control the position from the bottom.

King thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Garcia not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

King wants to control from the top but Garcia keeps moving.

Garcia is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Garcia thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
King advances to half guard.
Garcia tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Garcia wants to control but King is keeping busy and won't allow it.
King wants to control but Garcia is keeping him busy.
Garcia is pressing down on King's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Garcia wants to sweep here but King controlling him for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Mark Garcia will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Garcia shoots in looking for a takedown. King tries to sprawl out of it but Garcia keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. King manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

King changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Garcia looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Alistair King overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
King throws a strike aimed at the side of Garcia's head but Garcia avoids it well.
Garcia is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

King has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Garcia swinging wilding here.
King explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.

Garcia wants to clinch up but King keeps it at a distance.
Garcia tries for a takedown but King circles away easily

and King counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

King has Garcia pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. King pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Garcia tumbling to the mat - King dives into Garcia's guard.
King wants to pass the guard but Garcia is keeping the position.

King is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Garcia is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Garcia has escaped and now he's on top!
Garcia postures up in King's guard and throws a big left but King blocks it.

Garcia trying to control the position from guard on top but King is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

King escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Garcia gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Garcia stands up from King's guard - Garcia perhaps looking for a knockout.

Garcia moves into the clinch.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
King misses with a short punch on the inside.
Garcia prevents a takedown attempt there.
King is pressed up against the cage. Garcia has hold of a leg and is looking to drag King down to the mat. King avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Alistair King has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mark Garcia.

Garcia shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in King's guard.
Garcia wants to control from the top but King keeps moving.
King trying to keep a closed guard but Garcia is proving a slippery customer.

Garcia gets to his feet - King follows without any prompting.

King instigates a clinch.
Garcia jumps guard but King stands there with Garcia around his waist. Garcia gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
King prevents Garcia from breaking the clinch.
King tries to pull guard but Garcia won't allow it.
Garcia's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Garcia is fighting off a takedown attempt but King is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Garcia to the mat. Garcia regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Garcia preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Garcia is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
