PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Scottie Pearson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vladimir Petrakov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vladimir Petrakov will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vladimir Petrakov!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Viktor Lagutenko and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pearson instigates a clinch.
Pearson tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Pearson jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Petrakov walks away with a smile on his face. Pearson gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Pearson could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Pearson avoids the head kick by Petrakov.
An attempted straight right counter from Pearson misses the target.
Petrakov throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Pearson wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Petrakov misses with a jab, cross combination.
Pearson tries to counter by clinching up but Petrakov breaks away and moves out of range.

Pearson throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Pearson lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Pearson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Petrakov has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Pearson has passed into side control.
Petrakov is working to avoid the ground and pound but Pearson connects with a decent elbow.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Pearson remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Petrakov seems a little lost for a moment, as Pearson dominates the positioning.
Pearson's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Petrakov shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Pearson wants to get back to his feet but Petrakov passes into half guard.
Pearson pushes Petrakov off looking to stand but Petrakov dives back in and keeps control.
Petrakov prevents Pearson from improving his position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Pearson moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Petrakov throws a head kick but Pearson moves out of range.
Vladimir Petrakov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Petrakov gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Pearson tries to pull guard but Petrakov won't allow it.

Pearson has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Petrakov uses from the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pearson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Pearson wants to get back to his feet but Petrakov is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Pearson is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Petrakov's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Petrakov's back!

Pearson scores with a nice shot to the head of his opponent. Petrakov is looking for a way out.
Petrakov is covering up but some of the strikes from Pearson are getting through and doing damage.

Petrakov is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Pearson.
Pearson lands a shot to the body.
Pearson controlling well, preventing Petrakov from escaping the position.
Petrakov is breathing heavily.
Petrakov is trying to get back to his feet but Pearson has full control of the position and if anything, Petrakov has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Pearson lands a shot to the head.
Pearson has Petrakov flattened out and is raining down punches.

Pearson controlling the position well here. Petrakov rolled but Pearson kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

I really don't envy Petrakov right now.
Petrakov is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Scottie Pearson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
You can see the frustration on Petrakov's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Pearson closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Petrakov's guard.
Pearson stays in close to Petrakov's body and controls the position.
Petrakov looking to control but Pearson passes into half guard.
Pearson takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Pearson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Petrakov with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Petrakov pushes Pearson off looking to stand but Pearson dives back in and keeps control.
Well, if Pearson is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Petrakov takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Petrakov fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Pearson, pushing him back against the cage.
Pearson tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Petrakov just stands there and leans against the cage.
Pearson jumps guard but Petrakov turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Pearson jumps guard but Petrakov stands there with Pearson around his waist. Pearson gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Scottie Pearson. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Petrakov wants the takedown. Pearson is fighting it off but Petrakov persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Pearson's guard against the cage.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Pearson manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Pearson is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Pearson jumps guard but Petrakov stands there with Pearson around his waist. Pearson gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Petrakov breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Pearson is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Petrakov can do to turn this around?

Petrakov fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Pearson to the ground. Petrakov is now in Pearson's guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Pearson is on top in guard.

Pearson scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Pearson prevents Petrakov from getting back to his feet.
Pearson is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Pearson seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Petrakov for as long as he can get away with.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Scottie Pearson showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Pearson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
