With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Joel Romero Basquez!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Ron Honeybunn and Topper Green.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Basquez doesn't manage to clinch there - Mamchenko circles away.

Mamchenko drops down looking for a counter takedown but Basquez sprawls and moves away.

Basquez scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Joel Romero Basquez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Mamchenko throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Basquez was covering up waiting for the punch and Mamchenko finishes the takedown easily into guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mamchenko accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Mamchenko could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Mamchenko wants to control from the top but Basquez keeps moving.

Mamchenko is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Basquez is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Mamchenko defends well.
Mamchenko passes into half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Mamchenko.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Basquez closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Basquez lands in his opponent's guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Evgenii Mamchenko will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Basquez throws a head kick but Mamchenko moves out of range.
Mamchenko misses with a takedown attempt - Basquez sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Mamchenko working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Basquez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Mamchenko is tightening it up a little... Basquez has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Basquez reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Basquez taps out! Nice BJJ there by Mamchenko!
