PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Vito Gill (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Conan Shaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Vito Gill!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Conan Shaw!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Yves DeLean and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gill with a poor takedown

and Shaw holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Gill wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Gill is trying to break the clinch but Shaw is controlling him.

Shaw pulls guard successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gill working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Shaw can do anything to dispel that myth.
Gill stays in close to Shaw's body and controls the position.
Gill slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shaw is being controlled here.
Gill working away.
Gill staying calm.
Gill cracks Shaw with an elbow. That is naaassty.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Gill stands up and beckons Shaw to his feet.
Shaw tries to close the distance and clinch but Gill swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Gill shoots in and bounces Shaw off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Shaw looking for a sweep. Not yet Shaw, not yet.
Gill loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Shaw has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gill can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Gill is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Gill with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gill working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Shaw's head.
Shaw really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gill. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Shaw seems keen to control Gill's posture.
Gill keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Shaw's head.
Shaw looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Shaw looks winded!

Gill gets to his feet - Shaw follows without any prompting.

Gill feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Gill working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Shaw's head.

Gill decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Shaw, up you get!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Gill closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Shaw quickly recovers to half guard.
Gill tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Shaw moves into full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gill is stalling in the full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gill with a nice head shot there.

Gill decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Shaw, up you get!

Shaw shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Gill manages to get to full guard.
Gill is adopting a defensive guard.
Gill bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Shaw's guard.


That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gill postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Gill makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Gill working some strikes from top position.
Gill controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Gill gets to his feet. Shaw looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Gill gets the takedown into side control.
Shaw takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Gill lands a nice forearm strike.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Shaw on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Shaw is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Gill landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Gill is working Shaw over with some ground and pound from side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vito Gill dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Gill looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Shaw!
Gill in side control lands a decent elbow.
Gill creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Shaw sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Gill decides to stand up, so the ref orders Shaw to his feet.

Shaw closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Gill quickly recovers to half guard.

Gill keeping hold of Shaw's head, controlling as best he can.
Gill has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Gill gets back to full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Gill working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Shaw doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Shaw manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Shaw is breathing heavily.

Gill looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Shaw is defending well. Gill quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Shaw has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Gill celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:33 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Vito Gill!
Conan Shaw spoke after the fight, saying 'i will be back from this lose and will be the best at what i do '.
