Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Willie Sampson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nathan Hunter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hunter has chosen Applause by Lady Gaga as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Nathan Hunter has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Willie Sampson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nathan Hunter!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, George Francis and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hunter drives through with a takedown into Sampson's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hunter accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Sampson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hunter on the ground.
Sampson wants to sweep but no luck.
Hunter controls from within his opponent's guard.
Sampson looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Hunter trying to control but Sampson is working from the bottom.

Hunter wants to pass the guard but Sampson is keeping the position.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hunter sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Sampson's guard.

Hunter is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Sampson is just riding it out for now. Hunter eventually gives up the hold.
Sampson is looking for a sweep. Hunter is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Sampson is working hard here to advance position.
Hunter not doing much here.
Sampson won't allow Hunter to pass to mount.

Sampson kicks off Hunter and gets to his feet.

Hunter shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Sampson napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Hunter trying to control the position but Sampson is working away.
Sampson gets back to half guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Hunter winds up and cracks Sampson with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Sampson is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Hunter pulls his head out easily.
Hunter prevents Sampson from improving his position.
Sampson works his way to full guard. Good work.
Hunter passes Sampson's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
Hunter is trying to control. Sampson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Sampson is looking to improve his position.
Sampson slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Sampson is breathing heavily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hunter postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Sampson keeping moving, preventing Hunter from controlling successfully.

Hunter is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Sampson has momentary wrist control but Hunter slips an elbow through the middle.
Hunter trying to control the position from guard on top but Sampson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We've been informed that Hunter has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Hunter is looking to work some ground and pound but Sampson has wrist control.
Sampson looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Sampson could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Hunter controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Hunter feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Hunter won't allow Sampson to sweep him here.
Hunter slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Hunter trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Hunter is pushing down on Sampson's leg trying to pass to half guard. Sampson is fighting to maintain full guard but Hunter has managed to sneak the leg through.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hunter tries to pass the half guard into mount. Sampson knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nathan Hunter dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Hunter shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Hunter was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Hunter has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Sampson is looking to regain half guard here but Hunter keeps moving and retains side control.
Sampson is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Sampson is looking for a sweep. Hunter is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Hunter is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sampson tries to roll over but Hunter keeps him under control.
Sampson keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Hunter wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sampson keeps working.

Hunter tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Sampson is staying active underneath Hunter, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Sampson makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Sampson.
Hunter trying to control but Sampson is working from the bottom.
Hunter is breathing heavily.
Sampson looking for a sweep. Not yet Sampson, not yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Hunter in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Hunter thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Sampson tries to strike from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Sampson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Hunter keeping moving, preventing Sampson from controlling successfully.
Sampson is looking to work some ground and pound but Hunter has wrist control.

Sampson decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Sampson ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Hunter gets a double leg takedown into Sampson's guard.

Sampson wants to sweep but no luck.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sampson thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Sampson looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hunter is one step ahead there.
Nathan Hunter has got the better of the ground game so far.
Hunter trying to control the position from guard on top but Sampson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hunter working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Hunter passes into half guard.

Hunter maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Sampson could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Hunter has cracked it and Sampson is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Hunter!

A less than humble Nathan Hunter misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
