PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Chem Spaletti (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Edgar Cano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Edgar Cano was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Chem Spaletti!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Edgar Cano!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Donald Grub and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cano closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Spaletti quickly recovers to half guard.

Cano is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Spaletti makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Spaletti.
Spaletti manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cano manages to get himself to full guard.
Spaletti is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Bobby B's Gem that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.

Cano has his foot on Spaletti's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Spaletti works his way back into a safe position though.

Spaletti is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Spaletti thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Cano working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Spaletti doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Spaletti manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Cano manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Cano is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Spaletti sees it coming and defends easily.

Cano is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Spaletti defends it well.

Spaletti is looking for a sweep. Cano is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Spaletti is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Cano's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Cano's back!

Spaletti looking for the choke but no joy.
Spaletti has the hooks in. Cano is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Cano manages to reverse the position and now he's in Spaletti's guard. Nice work there by Cano.

Cano in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Spaletti is tapping! That's the end of the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Edgar Cano!
After winning the bout, Edgar Cano thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
