PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Melvin Morris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kev Rubio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rubio is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: turn down for what. Kev Rubio will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Melvin Morris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kev Rubio!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, John Roberts and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A right-left combo lands from Morris.
Morris will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Rubio steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.
Morris swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Rubio ducks under a wild hook from Morris.
Morris shoots in for a double leg but Rubio sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Morris lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

Morris changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Rubio looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Morris in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Rubio is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Morris tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Morris thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rubio avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Morris.
Rubio is trying to buck Morris off.
Morris wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rubio keeps working.
Morris in side control, throwing shots but Rubio defends.

Morris thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Morris trying to control the action but Rubio is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Rubio is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Morris lands some shots froms side control.
Morris taking a break here but Rubio is having none of it and regains half guard.
Morris takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Morris is nestled in close to Rubio, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Morris is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Morris thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Morris is trying to control. Rubio wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Morris throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Morris stalling.
Morris looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Rubio with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Morris sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Rubio defending well though.
Rubio wants to get back to his feet.

Rubio makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Rubio fails in his attempt to clinch.
Nice sprawl there from Rubio as Morris shoots in.
As Morris backs off Rubio throws a huge counter combo but Morris manages to avoid it all.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Morris scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.


Rubio is rocked!
Morris grits his teeth and throws a big right-left combo! Rubio takes both shots clean on the chin and is out cold! Morris cracks him once more on his way down, as the crowd goes wild! They enjoyed that one!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:13 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Melvin Morris!
An out of breath Melvin Morris thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
The defeated Kev Rubio had this to say: 'i did my best and i give it all but next time i will win '.
