PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Tomasz Kowalski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Markus Wyzewski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wyzewski has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Tomasz Kowalski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Markus Wyzewski!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Sandra Marshall and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kowalski decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Kowalski is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Kowalski will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Kowalski thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Kowalski in particular looking to stall.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kowalski is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Kowalski in particular looking to stall.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Kowalski gets in close and instigates a clinch.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Kowalski manages to break the clinch.
Kowalski is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Wyzewski.

Kowalski clinches up with Wyzewski and pushes him back against the cage.

Wyzewski prevents a takedown attempt there.
Wyzewski wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Kowalski has him pressed against the cage.

Wyzewski is trying to break the clinch but Kowalski is controlling him.

Kowalski lands a takedown into guard.
Wyzewski can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Kowalski controls the pace.

Kowalski decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Wyzewski, up you get!
Wyzewski slips a jab and a cross from Kowalski.

Wyzewski gets caught napping as Kowalski dives in and scores a takedown. Wyzewski manages to retain guard.
Kowalski slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Wyzewski is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Kowalski decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Wyzewski, up you get!

Kowalski has taken the fight to the clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Kowalski looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Wyzewski is fending him off so far but Kowalski persists. Nope, Wyzewski circles away and we're back to standing.

Kowalski shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Wyzewski is trying to defend but Kowalski finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Wyzewski kicks off Kowalski and gets to his feet.
The fighters circling - Wyzewski throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Wyzewski connects with a body shot that sends Kowalski's belly button to the back.

Kowalski feints and as Wyzewski raises his hands in defense, Kowalski changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Kowalski seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Kowalski seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Wyzewski is breathing heavily.
Kowalski seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Wyzewski for as long as he can get away with.

Kowalski stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Wyzewski misses the jab.

Wyzewski gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Wyzewski can't keep his opponent in guard - Kowalski advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Kowalski is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Kowalski decides to stand up.
Kowalski is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Wyzewski can do to turn this around?

Kowalski shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Kowalski was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Wyzewski bucks up and tries to throw Kowalski off but instead Kowalski has got his back!

Kowalski trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Wyzewski doesn't escape.
Kowalski has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Kowalski looking for the choke but no joy.
Kowalski lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
Kowalski has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Wyzewski.
Kowalski keeps control of the position easily here as Wyzewski tries to buck him off.

Kowalski is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kowalski looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Kowalski with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Wyzewski is in trouble now - Kowalski has advanced to mount!
Kowalski content just to control the position here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wyzewski is bucking up trying to escape but Kowalski cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Wyzewski takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

A nice elbow there by Kowalski.
Wyzewski is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Kowalski takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Kowalski stands up from mount. Strange move.
The fighters circle, before Kowalski throws a beautiful high kick that crashes into Wyzewski's neck, sending him stumbling to the floor! Kowalski lands more strikes and forces a referee stoppage! That one ended in an instant!
