PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between James Cook (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Oscar Jorgensen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James Cook!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Oscar Jorgensen!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Summer Carpenter and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cook fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Jorgensen to the ground. Cook is now in Jorgensen's guard.
Cook has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Cook thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Cook knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jorgensen on the ground.

Cook decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Jorgensen, up you get!
Jorgensen circles away from the clinch attempt.
Jorgensen cracks the inside of Cook's front leg.
Cook tries to clinch up but Jorgensen circles away and keeps his distance.
Jorgensen scores with a head kick.
Jorgensen scores with a head kick. Cook tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Jorgensen moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

and Jorgensen counters with a nice low kick that buckles Cook's knee momentarily.
Cook takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Jorgensen swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Cook shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Jorgensen is trying to defend but Cook finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Cook stalling.
Cook stops Jorgensen from getting back to his feet.
Cook wants to free his trapped foot but Jorgensen is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Jorgensen makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Jorgensen.
Cook wants to control from the top but Jorgensen keeps moving.

Jorgensen is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Cook is aware though and is defending well.

Cook stands and steps away. Jorgensen gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Cook darts in looking for a takedown but Jorgensen gets double underhooks and turns Cook into the cage.

Cook manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Jorgensen on his heels. He'll look to pass Jorgensen's guard now, I'm sure.

Cook stands up and waves to Jorgensen to follow him.
Jorgensen should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Jorgensen scores with the left hand. Cook knows he should have avoided that one.
Cook doesn't manage to clinch there - Jorgensen circles away.

Cook shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Cook showed some decent athleticism there.
Cook will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Cook working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jorgensen is refusing to be controlled, as Cook sits in half guard.
Jorgensen is trying to stand.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Cook stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Jorgensen to get to his feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Danga de danga de dang - Jorgensen scores with a four punch combination!
Cook looks to throw a body kick
and Jorgensen counters with a nice leg kick.

and Jorgensen counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

and Cook takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Oscar Jorgensen will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Jorgensen lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.

Cook throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.

James Cook seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cook closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Jorgensen did well to prevent Cook getting side control.
Cook takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cook postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Jorgensen to stand up.

Cook tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Jorgensen paws at him with a jab and circles away.

and Jorgensen counters with a three punch combo that has Cook backing up. Cook nods at Jorgensen to acknowledge the strikes.

Cook shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Cook was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Jorgensen looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Jorgensen is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Cook asserts his dominance and retains side control.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Cook keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Jorgensen.
Jorgensen stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Jorgensen wants it to stay on the feet.
Cook fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Cook looks to land a body kick but Jorgensen moved away.
Cook shoots in but Jorgensen avoids the takedown attempt easily.

and Jorgensen counters with a nice low kick that buckles Cook's knee momentarily.
Cook shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Jorgensen as he avoids it easily.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Cook is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Jorgensen is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Cook engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Jorgensen has his foot on Cook's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Cook works his way back into a safe position though.
Jorgensen wants to stand and escape but Cook is having none of it.

Jorgensen is working an open guard so Cook takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Cook drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Cook jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Cook shoots in and bounces Jorgensen off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Cook shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Cook shoots in looking for a takedown. Jorgensen tries to sprawl out of it but Cook keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Jorgensen manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Cook dives in and scores a takedown into Jorgensen's guard.

Cook throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Jorgensen tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Cook is in Jorgensen's guard.

Oscar Jorgensen is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
