PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jeffson Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Asher Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie comes to the cage accompanied by Cliff Richard - Summer Holiday. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 35 - 32 - 3, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jeffson Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 48 - 38 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Asher Lee!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Seu Braga and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lee lands a jab to Gracie's midsection.
Lee darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Gracie scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Lee looks to land a combination but Gracie avoids it well.
A little feinted left hand from Gracie on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Gracie drops his hands momentarily and Lee takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Gracie has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Lee finds it's way round the side to connect with Gracie's head.
Lee lands with a cross.
Lee with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Lee misses with a hook

and Gracie moves into the clinch.
Lee tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Gracie landing knees to the head.

Gracie breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Gracie closes the distance and clinches up with Lee, looking for a takedown. Gracie pushes Lee against the cage but Lee circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Gracie avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Good exchange - Lee coming out on top.
Lee moves into range and connects with a jab.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lee works the jab nicely.
Lee lands with a good body shot.
Gracie looks to throw the jab but Lee is out of range.
Lee lands a jab to the nose.
Lee is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Gracie had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.
Lee lands an overhand right.
Lee throws a body punch but Gracie moves out of range.
Lee has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Lee scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Lee throws a jab but it's blocked by Gracie.
A little feinted left hand from Gracie on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Lee lands with a good body shot.
Lee misses the jab.
Lee stuffs the takedown.
Asher Lee is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Gracie closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Lee did well to prevent Gracie getting side control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Gracie wants to take a breather but Lee is having none of it.

Gracie is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Lee preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Gracie is keen to just control but Lee is a slippery customer.
Lee tries to roll over but Gracie keeps him under control.
Gracie trying to mount his opponent but Lee defends it.
Gracie passes the guard and advances to mount!

Gracie goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Lee is on top in guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Gracie rushes Lee and presses him up against the cage.

Gracie breaks from the clinch.
Lee bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Lee! But no joy.
Lee throws a right hand that misses
and Gracie counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Lee scores with a nice head shot.
Lee throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Jab from Lee.
Lee fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Gracie on the side of the head.
Gracie goes for a double leg but Lee avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Lee continues to drive forward.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jeffson Gracie. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lee slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Lee is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Lee lands a jab to the nose.
Lee might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Lee throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Gracie on the side of the head.
A left lands for Lee.
Lee throws a right and a left that both miss.
As Lee looks to move away, Gracie throws a big counter combo bu Lee just gets out of the way.

Gracie decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Gracie perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Lee tries to kick Gracie off but Gracie keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Lee holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Gracie is trying to control the action in half guard but Lee is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Gracie tries to pass to full mount but Lee defends it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Asher Lee dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Gracie steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Lee.
Lee is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Horrible takedown attempt by Gracie or perhaps it was just good defense by Lee, which made it look bad.
Asher Lee seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Gracie tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Lee swivels and escapes.
Lee throws a series of punches but Gracie avoids them all with ease.
A telegraphed right hand from Lee misses the target.
Lee listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
A left lands for Lee.
A punch combination from Lee misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gracie fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Lee misses with a straight right.
Lee throws a nice looking combination but Gracie bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Lee ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Lee lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Lee, as that shot connected.
Lee lands with a shot to the body.
Gracie takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Lee ducks under a wild hook from Gracie.
Gracie takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Lee fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Lee takes a swing at Gracie's ribcage but misses.
It looked like Gracie was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Lee.
Gracie walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Lee throws a hook but Gracie blocks it.
Gracie changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Gracie has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Lee finds it's way round the side to connect with Gracie's head.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Lee jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Gracie appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Gracie is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Lee.
Lee displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Lee throws a body shot but no joy.
Lee keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Lee just misses with a punch to the body.
Gracie throws a hook to the side of Lee's head but Lee sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Lee loads up on a big right hand but Gracie slips the punch.
Lee stuns Gracie with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

The fighters circle momentarily. Lee darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Lee misses with a double jab.
Gracie tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Lee swivels and escapes.
Lee just misses with a punch to the body.
Lee looks to land a left hand but Gracie moved out of range nicely.
Gracie takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Lee fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Gracie manages to avoid it.
Lee throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Gracie on the side of the head.
The fighters circling - Gracie throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Gracie moves out of range of the strikes.

Lee throws a wild body kick that Gracie sees coming a mile off.

Lee slips a jab and a cross from Gracie.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Lee! But no joy.
Gracie moves forwards but Lee connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Lee connects with a nice looking jab.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Gracie shoots in looking for a takedown but Lee manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Gracie's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Sloppy strikes from Lee. Those never looked like landing.
A left and a right from Lee both land. Nice combination.
Lee stuffs the takedown attempt from Gracie. Gracie gets slowly back to his feet.
Lee misses with a wild body shot.
Lee connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Gracie is looking to clinch but Lee is avoiding it.
A countering left hand to the body from Lee misses.
Lee fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Gracie shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Lee as he jumps to the side.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Asher Lee showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

A little jabbing left from Lee on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Gracie closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Lee misses with an uppercut. Gracie saw that one coming.
The crowd cheers as Lee lands an impressive looking overhand right. Gracie doesn't seem phased though.

Lee stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Lee shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Gracie eats them both and turns towards Lee to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Gracie throwing a counter right hand but Lee manages to avoid it.
Gracie slips a jab from Lee.
Lee slips under a jab from Gracie.
Gracie takes a shot to the body in his stride.
A cross from Lee lands.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Lee scores with a shot to the body.
Gracie throws a big shot that misses.
Lee swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Gracie changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Lee tries to avoid it but Gracie manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Lee to the ground. Lee escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Gracie loads up on a big right hand but Lee slips the punch.
Gracie takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Asher Lee seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gracie ducks under a wild hook from Lee.
Lee lands with a right hand.
Lee connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Gracie's hands.
Lee misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Gracie.
Jeffson Gracie has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Asher Lee is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Lee ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Gracie moves away.

Gracie looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Lee!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Gracie tries to advance to mount but can't.
Lee is looking for a sweep.
Gracie is looking to take a break and control but Lee is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Gracie tries to move to mount but Lee blocks the move with his legs.
Lee being controlled for a moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gracie has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Lee!
Lee tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Gracie working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Lee wants to hold on but Gracie pushes him away.
Lee is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Gracie is looking to work his way around to Lee's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Gracie tries to stand up but Lee had a hold of his arm and he's managed to perform a nice reversal, into half guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Gracie looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Gracie is pushing down on Lee's leg trying to pass to half guard. Lee is fighting to maintain full guard but Gracie has managed to sneak the leg through.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Lee is not content to let Gracie control the position.
Gracie thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

And that's the end of the fight!
Asher Lee comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Lee winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
