The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown attempt by Montes or perhaps it was just good defense by Volland, which made it look bad.
Volland half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Montes tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Volland paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Volland has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Volland there as he acknowledges the shot.
Montes dives in for a single leg takedown but Volland sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the ropes.
Volland tries to counter with a takedown but Montes is quick to defend against it.
Volland connects with a nice looking jab.
Volland throws a big shot that misses.

Montes is looking to clinch but Volland is avoiding it.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Montes fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Volland avoids it really well and circles away.
Christian Volland has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Affonso Montes.
Volland uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Montes has time to react.

Montes shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Volland as he jumps to the side.
Montes lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Volland circles away quickly and effectively.

Montes has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Montes tries to pull guard but Volland forces him back to his feet, against the ropes.

Volland tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Montes has had enough of the clinch but Volland keeps him there for the moment.

Volland tightens his grip and picks Montes up, before dumping him to the ground. Montes manages to land in guard.
Volland sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Montes's guard.
Volland passes to side control.
Volland lands a strong strike to the head of Montes. That's dazed him! Volland looking to finish here. Montes is waving his arms around trying to block but he's hurt badly - Volland lands more strikes and the referee steps in to end the fight!
