PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Cedrick Montoya (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Toenail Fungus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fungus has chosen Freak Like Me-Halestorm as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Bruno Lombardi and Lou da Vinci.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Fungus darts in and clinches Montoya up against the cage.

Montoya breaks the clinch.

Fungus has Montoya up against the cage in a clinch.

Fungus gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Montoya regains guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Montoya tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Fungus tries to stand but Montoya is controlling from the bottom.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Montoya is on top in guard.

Montoya drops back looking for a leg! Fungus is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Fungus manages to kick Montoya off! Montoya jumps back into Fungus's guard.
Montoya could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Montoya won't allow Fungus to get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Fungus is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Montoya presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Fungus lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Montoya manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Fungus keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Montoya manages to break the clinch.
Fungus swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Montoya counters with a series of strikes. Fungus will be more careful next time no doubt.
Fungus misses with the combination.
Montoya seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Fungus misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Montoya went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Fungus is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Montoya is controlling him.

Fungus has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Montoya off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Fungus has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Montoya regains guard immediately.

Montoya has Fungus pressed against the cage, preventing Fungus from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Montoya decides to pull guard.
Fungus stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Montoya swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Fungus stands and steps away. Montoya gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Montoya tries to keep at a distance but Fungus has taken the fight into the clinch.
Montoya has Fungus pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Fungus manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cedrick Montoya. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Montoya has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Fungus after a bit of a struggle.
Montoya is breathing heavily.

Fungus decides to pull guard.

Fungus is working an open guard so Montoya takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Fungus is in close to Montoya's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Fungus postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Toenail Fungus dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Fungus decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Fungus is looking to work some ground and pound but Montoya has wrist control.

Fungus decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Montoya, up you get!

Fungus rushes Montoya and presses him up against the cage.

Montoya is fighting off a takedown attempt but Fungus is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Montoya to the mat. Montoya regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Montoya sneaks out the side door and pushes Fungus away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Fungus scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Montoya slips a jab and a cross from Fungus.
Montoya seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Fungus goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Fungus throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Fungus misses with a few strikes there.
As Fungus looks to move away, Montoya throws a big counter combo bu Fungus just gets out of the way.
Fungus is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

Montoya feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Montoya decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Fungus tries to bum rush Montoya with a series of wild strikes but Montoya uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Toenail Fungus showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Fungus throws a shot to the body.

Fungus pushes Montoya away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Montoya gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Montoya wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Fungus, who protects the arm well.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Fungus is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Montoya tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Montoya has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Fungus is trying to control Montoya's posture but Montoya avoids it.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Fungus is trying to buck Montoya off.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Fungus goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

Fungus is trying to trip Montoya. He has hold of a leg but Montoya is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Fungus persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Montoya manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Fungus manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Montoya has hold of one of Fungus's legs. Fungus is fighting the takedown attempt but Montoya gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Montoya is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Fungus has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Montoya is looking to defend but Fungus has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Montoya! Fungus pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Montoya taps out and this one is all over!
