PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Justin Ronin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marc Maddox (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Justin Ronin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Marc Maddox!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Wesley Smith and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ronin scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Maddox takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Ronin will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Maddox feints the counter takedown.
Ronin digs a good body shot into Maddox's ribs.
Ronin is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Maddox.
Justin Ronin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Maddox takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Maddox rushes Ronin and presses him up against the cage.
Ronin wants to break free but Maddox has control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Maddox goes for a takedown in the clinch but Ronin prevents it.

Maddox has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Ronin uses from the top position.
Maddox wants to get back to his feet but Ronin is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Ronin wants to stand and escape but instead Maddox has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Ronin is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Maddox dives into side control.

Ronin parries the strikes from Maddox easily there. Maddox is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Ronin to escape.
Maddox tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Maddox throws a strike aimed at the side of Ronin's head but Ronin avoids it well.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Maddox is defended easily by Ronin.
Justin Ronin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marc Maddox.
Ronin swings for the body but Maddox moves out of range.
Ronin works the jab nicely.
Ronin misses the shot to the body.
And Maddox tries to counter it with a takedown but Ronin pushes his down on his head and steps out.
The crowd cheers as Ronin lands an impressive looking overhand right. Maddox doesn't seem phased though.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Ronin, as that shot connected.

Maddox takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Maddox has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Ronin after a bit of a struggle.
Maddox is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Ronin gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Ronin wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Maddox wants to take the fight to the mat but Ronin manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Maddox gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Ronin regains guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Maddox is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Ronin's shoulder. That is not cool.

Maddox lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Ronin down.
Maddox cracks Ronin with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Maddox has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

The ground and pound from Maddox seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Maddox misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Maddox cracks Ronin with a big elbow. Oh, he's hurt! Maddox immediately mounts and start dropping bombs! Ronin is done! The referee jumps in and saves him from any more punishment - a quick and decisive finish by Maddox!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:36 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Marc Maddox!
A very excited looking Marc Maddox made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
