Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Wang Chung (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marat Sanayev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Wang Chung!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Marat Sanayev!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Jeff Smith and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sanayev is looking to clinch but Chung is avoiding it.
Marat Sanayev seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sanayev wants to clinch.
Sanayev wants to clinch up but Chung keeps it at a distance.
Sanayev doesn't manage to clinch there - Chung circles away.

Sanayev drives through and clinches with Chung against the cage.
Sanayev lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Chung working some nice short punches in the clinch.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Chung.
Sanayev lands an elbow inside that Chung shrugs off.


It looks like Wang Chung has been cut.
Sanayev told us before the fight that he's been working on his elbows. An under utilised technique these days - let's see if it can sway the outcome of the fight.
Sanayev misses with a hook from the clinch.
Sanayev creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Chung's defenses.

Chung has Sanayev pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Chung pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Sanayev tumbling to the mat - Chung dives into Sanayev's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sanayev is looking to stand up but Chung isn't so interested in that idea.

Sanayev is wriggling around but Chung manages to pass to half guard.
Sanayev is looking to escape.
Chung working over Sanayev with some ground and pound. Sanayev looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Sanayev pushes Chung off looking to stand but Chung dives back in and keeps control.
Chung tries to pass to full mount but Sanayev defends it.
Chung has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Sanayev looks like he's trying to stand up.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Chung connects with a nice short shot to Sanayev's temple.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sanayev pushes Chung off looking to stand but Chung dives back in and keeps control.
Chung not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Sanayev is trying to stand back up but Chung is controlling him
Chung working Sanayev over with strikes.
Chung is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.


It looks like Marat Sanayev has been cut.
Sanayev is trying to stand up here but Chung is controlling him well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Chung is keen to just control but Sanayev is a slippery customer.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Chung throws the kick towards the body but Sanayev avoids it.
Sanayev tries to clinch but Chung is having none of it.

A cross from Chung lands.
Chung lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Sanayev darts in trying to clinch
and Chung counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Sanayev has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Chung finds it's way round the side to connect with Sanayev's head.
Chung swats away the attempt to clinch by Sanayev.
Sanayev tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Chung connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Sanayev doesn't manage to clinch there - Chung circles away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Sanayev looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Sloppy strikes from Chung. Those never looked like landing.

Sanayev tries to close the distance and clinch up but Chung swats him away and circles back towards the center.
A chopping leg kick lands by Sanayev.
Sanayev takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.


That has opened up Marat Sanayev's cut even more.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Sanayev fails with an attempt to clinch.
Sanayev tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Chung makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Chung fakes a right and follows up with a big left that drops Sanayev to one knee - oooooh, he's wobbly! Sanayev looks to clinch but Chung throws him off and pummels him into the canvas! Sanayev taps out under the strikes! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:13 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Wang Chung!
