Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mitchel Thompson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vitaly Karelin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Thompson comes to the cage accompanied by Smashing pumpkins - Disarm. Karelin has chosen Russian National Anthem as his entrance music. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, James Atkins and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Karelin avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Karelin tries to clinch up.
Thompson misses the shot to the body.
Thompson throws a combination. Karelin tries to block but a couple of punches get through.


It looks like Vitaly Karelin has been cut.
Karelin connects with a body shot.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Thompson tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Karelin was well out of range. Poor timing from Thompson.

Thompson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Thompson fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Karelin manages to avoid it.

Karelin changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Thompson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

We've been informed that Karelin has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Thompson stalks Karelin and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Karelin's face. Karelin staggers backwards, shaken.


That has opened up Vitaly Karelin's cut even more.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mitchel Thompson will probably get the nod.

Thompson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Thompson is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Karelin can do to turn this around?

Karelin is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Thompson can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Thompson is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Karelin postures up and throws a massive shot that knocks Thompson out cold! Two more strikes to his unconscious opponent for good luck and this one is all over! Karelin goes absolutely crazy with his corner! Wow, you can see how much that win means to him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:38 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Vitaly Karelin!
A less than humble Vitaly Karelin misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
In defeat, Mitchel Thompson stepped up to the mic, saying 'I hope my fans enjoyed the fight as much as I did...'.
