The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rare tries to clinch
and Heavy counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

We've been hearing good reports from Rare's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Heavy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rare. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Heavy shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Rare eats them both and turns towards Heavy to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Rare pushes off an throws an elbow but Heavy leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the ropes.
Rare tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Heavy just stands there and leans against the ropes.
Heavy is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Heavy breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Heavy looks to land a combination. Rare sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Rare. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Rare throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Heavy because Rare loaded up on that one.

Rare cracks Heavy with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Well,Rare is on his way to losing a decision here. Can he use his experience to pull something off in the closing minutes?

Rare is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Heavy reverses the position - he's now on top in Rare's guard.
Heavy is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
