PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Russell Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Bacon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bacon has chosen Scissors For Lefty - Softly The Sea Swallows The Sun as his entrance music. Matt Bacon will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Russell Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Matt Bacon!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Russell Pearce and John Roberts.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jones closes the distance and clinches.
Bacon is working for takedown but Jones is calmly controlling the position for now.
Bacon blocks an elbow strike.
Jones using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Bacon has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Bacon lands a body shot in the clinch.
Jones lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Bacon backwards.
Jones tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Bacon jumps guard and drags Jones to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Jones sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Bacon's guard.
Bacon tries to get to full guard but Jones has control of the leg.
Bacon is pressing down on Jones's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Bacon manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jones manages to get himself to full guard.
Jones might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bacon accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Bacon trying to control the position from guard on top but Jones is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Jones escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bacon gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Bacon is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Jones working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bacon doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bacon manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Bacon lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Jones escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bacon gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Jones had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Bacon is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Jones Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Bacon's back instead.
Jones is breathing heavily.
Bacon tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Bacon is desperately trying to improve his position but Jones has a good base and remains in mount.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Bacon tries to hold on but Jones postures up.

Jones is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by Jones!
